I’m thinking a lot about what small actions for good actually do. It probably matters more that you talk about why and not if the thing you do actually has a large impact. Also they should make you happy.

I just got a podcast ad that described a TV ad and then told me to go online and watch the ad. I wonder how many people actually go watch after that. #ads #latestagecapitalism

Any one have any advice for starting a blog with limited time if I want to write about stuff I would also have to deep dive on to some extent? #science #blog #research

@edzitron.com Something I thought of while hearing an ad for Malcom Gladwell’s AI podcast. AI feels like it’s also following a trend that so much boosted tech has which is to isolate us. AI is like the worst iteration too since it’s boosted as replacing so much human interaction in some spheres.

Previously though Uber replaced asking people for rides, food delivery apps replaced asking a neighbor for a cup of sugar, rover replaced asking neighbors to check on your dog. The goal feels like it’s isolation even socially media is more of an isolation machine than a connection machine now.

I’m sure someone has talked about these things before but it feel more pervasive recently. Tech can be cool but the biggest media boosted tech is mostly just isolating. I’d be curious of your thoughts.

Moving somewhere new. What are the best little things to do to make things a little better right away for everyone. I know meet neighbors. Any other simple things?

The construction next to the funeral home I drive by next day has turned out to be an assisted living facility. I wonder if your a discount on transportation if you just need to be moved next door. #frugal ☠️☠️☠️

I know personally doing things for the environment doesn’t make a true impact. It’s still nice in the hyper local sense and I also hope giving and example and talking to others creates some 2nd or 3rd order effects that actually matter. I guess it might be like 5th or 6th order effects.

Can single works make big impacts any more in the current fractured culture? Like The Jungle on meat packing or Silent Spring on chemical pesticides? #environment #climate #books

I still go on things like Reddit too much and it’s stressful even my curated feed. Bluesky is a bit too. Mastodon and Pixelfed though are generally more calming. I think just too many voices make things stressful. #fediverse #pixelfed #mastodon #calmer

If anyone has knowledge about how much picking up litter improve things let me know. Like all things not just trash/plastic out of the ecosystem, but also mood, chance of more litter being dropped, wildlife health? I know there are probably some studies on it. I’ll try to find some of it. #cleanup

Saw someone cleaned up trash that was all over a small overpass. After my run I felt the need to clean some more litter. I only got 2 shopping bag fulls but it felt like a lot.

I’ve been think a little about how neighbors are kind of replaced by apps and services. Like social media being who people talk to but also in who you ask for a ride? Uber. Who dog sits for you? Rover. Who get you sugar when you run out? DoorDash. Who suggests movies, shows, or music? Streaming.

It’s not social media that has removed real life communities it’s also convenience apps. I know it isn’t like that everywhere. I wonder if it’s just that people prefer having a company to blame if something happens with an app?Or are people more conditioned to not trust their neighbors?

I’m not the best example of this personally but I want to be better. Neighbors are important. Real life connections are important. #Connections #Neighbors #IRL

!! CALL TO ACTION !! #Booksky please join me in the fight to save our libraries. EveryLibrary is working hard to save the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), which is the federal agency charged with distributing Congressionally approved funds to state libraries and grant recipients.

These Amazon ads on podcasts about “Amazon enabling and supporting” small businesses are interesting. Like I’m sure they probably do make logistics easier in some ways but like I also bet anything that gets big enough odds going to end up “Amazon basiced” #ads #eee #workingclass

@booker.senate.gov congratulations on breaking Thurman’s speech record. I hope you and your colleagues can leverage the attention. Keep inspiring people. You spoke a lot for things. We need more messaging for things. Being against this administration is easy but give people something to fight for.

Feels a lot like the direct line of Woody -> Springsteen-> Rage is something to keep in mind. Now Tom said, "Mom, wherever there's a cop beating a guy Wherever a hungry newborn baby cries Where there's a fight against the blood and hatred in the air Look for me, Mom, I'll be there

Wherever somebody's fighting for a place to stand Or a decent job or a helping hand Wherever somebody's struggling to be free Look in their eyes, Ma, and you'll see me" - Bruce Springsteen-The Ghost of Tom Joad We need more like Tom Joad. I should read Grapes of Wrath in case the book’s different.

I have things pretty good and I feel like 90% of days are just sleep cook eat work cook eat sleep. How do people who work even more manage everything. I know there are some people who fake working more but I mean the people who work more and just barely survive. #capitalism

So who else adds 15 to 30 minutes to everything you do because you forget 10 small things that take longer on their own than they should if you did them at the right time? #adhd

Bright spot today was it felt like spring. Less bright because it maybe shouldn’t be this spring light this early but for a one off I’ll take it. #brightspot

Bright spot today is going for a run even though I felt pretty bad and then picked up a shopping bag worth of litter. Still more to do litter wise. Trying to do a little at a time. #brightspot #litter

Bright spot today I had some time to play guitar so I didn’t spend the whole evening pointlessly struggling to start anything. I only did that for most of it instead of all of it. #brightspot
