Since June, I’ve been managing health issues and taking corticosteroids. Each day is a struggle where even a beautiful distraction like #AT40 couldn't compete with the pain and side effects so I stepped away. Appreciate your concern. It means a lot! Hope to be back to my old self with you very soon.

“Mr. Blue Sky” will forever be a favorite because it was the song playing over a loudspeaker when I picked my daughter up from her first sleep away summer camp years ago after not seeing her for a month. #AT40

And just from a dad’s perspective, it seems to me one of the explicit aims here is to make black girls feel like they are ugly. Like why else are you angry about a black little mermaid. And yes I take that shit personal.

It is genuinely bizarre that we’ve become acclimatized to right wingers throwing a tantrum every time a black person (particularly a black woman) is cast in something, but are also supposed to pretend that this is not racism but related to some other substantive concern.

THE ODYSSEY's instantly, predictably enormous success is Exhibit #32176 that the right wing's grievance-farming operation is not some great American cultural shift. Most people don't give a shit about their petty crusades.

At parties my mom went to and kids were invited in the mid-seventies, there was always at least one young couple, dressed fashionably who could do The Hustle and didn’t mind showing it off when the song was played. #AT40

In the Black community “The Rockford Files” was appreciated because they had Black characters with substance and depth, dismissing many of the TV police procedure stereotypes of the day. And Isaac Hayes, of course. #AT40

There's a perverse symbolism in the legacy of White racism sheltering under the bowers of all African Americans have done for this country while patiently waiting for the chance to go back to insisting we are a drain upon their society and that they never needed us at all.

“He's got this dream about buying some land He's gonna give up the booze and the one-night stands And then he'll settle down in some quiet little town And forget about everything” Sadly, Gerry couldn’t give up the booze, dying of liver failure in 2011. #AT40
