The Allies were fighting a massive military that they didn't even know that they were capable of defeating. Israel is "fighting" a small group with almost no military capabilities that poses almost zero threat to Israel's existence.

Like, it's totally reasonable to think "there's no way California would just let an entire Sheriff's department be controlled by criminal gangs for 50 years and do nothing about it" but also it's completely wrong
