Reading Naomi Klein’s new book on ‘End Times Fascism’ while hearing about Australia’s own descent into madness with the Hansonistas. Where are the grown ups in the room. Are there any left?? This quote sums it up for me:

AUKUS was sold as a way to strengthen Australia’s defence. Its deeper purpose is to bind Australia into US military strategy against China and make American security dependent on Australian participation, Mike Gilligan writes. #auspol #AUKUS #Defence

Having met Shoebridge, I think Albanese should be worried. Shoebridge is tough, smart and instinctive. a killer combo in politics. Australia needs a real opposition given hollowman Albanese's effective coaltion with the right. I'm not sure how the ALP rusted-ons live with themselves.

Netanyahu denies receiving warnings before Hamas’s 7 October attack. But reports now point to alerts from both the UAE and Egypt, while a source says he privately sought a denial from the Emirati president, Jack Khoury and The Associated Press report. #Israel #October7

Australia's trend unemployment rate has risen from 4% to 4.6% in two years and is still rising, yet the RBA is persisting in raising cash rates because of a global oil shock. It is ideological madness and it must be close to pitchfork time.

The RBA raising interest rates for the 4th time this year due to rising oil prices arising from a foreign war. Those prices are a tax on consumers and hit young workers the hardest. Cashed-up and debt-free boomers like me benefit from higher rates. Criminal madness by the RBA.

The Middle East is on fire but the tabloid blow-ins at ABC News are leading their morning news bulletin with car crashes and domestics. Why I prefer SBS.

In what universe do the imbeciles in the ALP think that continuing to kowtow to Trump’s insane regime and the Murdoch crime family is good politics? Someone needs to roll that spineless lisping prick

80% of Australians support a complete ban on gambling advertising. It’s time the government got on board. Join the campaign today to call on the federal government to protect young Australians from the predatory gambling industry and free our feeds from gambling ads.

With the two major parties clearly owned by the US security establishment, the defence lobby and the Sinophobes, Australia needs a referendum on AUKUS or give up on the pretence that we are a working democracy.

What is WRONG with the ALP? I would really like to hear from some of the rusted-ons on how they rationalise this and how that idiot Marles continues to hold his job. Labor needs to be destroyed at the ballot box.

Where are all the 'freedom' warriors when an artist loses his job for dedicating a piece of music to journalists killed in Gaza? MSO clearly is putting the sponsorship dollars from the vile Zionist lobby ahead of artistic integrity. theconversation.com/the-mso-and-...

theconversation.comThe MSO and Lattouf rulings are seemingly at odds. Where does this leave free speech at work? The court has found the cancellation of Jason Gillham’s concert by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra was not prohibited by Australian workplace laws.

What is it with the gerontocracy in the USA? People just hanging on forever in Congress and the Supreme Court well into their dotage, blocking younger people with new ideas and when they should be out in the garden with their grandkids enjoying retirement.

‘The significance of Harry’s reunion meeting with his father, King Charles, cannot be overstated,’ gravely intones the ABC News reporter. Actually, it can and you just did.

What is wrong with the ALP in its refusal to tackle the gambling industry?? Is there anyone with a conscience in that party ready to speak out? It just defies reason

I’m another baby boomer who has done well out of the house price lottery. But I also want to see prices become more affordable so my adult children are not shut out of the market. I really don’t understand why Angus Taylor and the looney Libs find that so hard to understand. Anyone??

Alex Fein@auspoldaily.bsky.social

@brenthodgson.bsky.social and @aaronsmith333.bsky.social, are you able to work your social media magic here and on the evil place (aka X, where I'm basically invisible) to spread the word on this Substack? Thanks so much!! redbridgeintel.substack.com/p/call-it-wh...

A new book focusing on media coverage of Gaza - like the recent ABC 7.30 report interview with a flotilla victim - shows how judgements regularly made in other contexts become controversial only when applied to the state of Israel.

theconversation.comFriday essay: How to Sell a Genocide exposes the double standards of reporting on GazaAlmost all major human rights organisations agree the destruction of Gaza meets the legal definition of genocide. Yet liberal news outlets still do not use the word.

As News Corp attacks sensible tax reform via its news pages, recall that by far its most profitable investment in Australia is its majority stake in the digital real estate giant REA Group, which has a market value of $22bn and an EBITDA margin of 62%. Of course they hate attacks on property spivs!

And it's not just News Corp. The real estate industry spent more than a quarter of a billion dollars on media advertising last year. Media owners, like the banks, depend on endless property speculation. It's why these people sell the vested interest as the public interest.

Amid the media's hysterical pearl clutching over the Budget, ask yourself: If by some miracle the Libs regained power, would they restore the Howard era CGT discount and NG regime? The answer is NO. Both fiscal reality & demographics are against them. It's all noise and confected outrage, folks.

Journo to Albo: ‘Will you apologise to the people who voted for you after you said you wouldn’t change CGT or negative gearing?” Umm, I don’t think the geared up spivs concerned about losing their tax perks ever voted for the ALP.

‘But you said we’d stop for an ice cream.’ The press gallery’s infantile squawking about ‘broken promises’ ignores that the silly ‘rule in-rule out’ games in election campaigns are for the media’s own benefit. The rest of us in the real world simply don’t care. It’s good policy we care about.

The electorate is much more sophisticated than the media give them credit for. They know promises are contingent. They know that circumstances change. They know that Australia is a cork in a heaving ocean and that the notion that politicians in Canberra can ever deliver absolute certainty is a myth.

One wonders at the intelligence of the Australian electorate when they vote for the hatchet-faced woman’s party of grifters as an expression of the interests of the ‘underdog’ when she’s getting flown the world around by a fascist billionaire masquerading as a poet.

If Australia really thinks the brain-dead, racist idiots of One Notion are the answer to this nation’s challenges, my response is ‘you illiterate morons deserve everything you get’. I’m out of here.

If the Libs’ identity crisis explains One Nation and the inevitability of a coalition between the two, surely the ALP will finally twig that its own demise will only be prevented by enfranchising its left flank and forming a coalition with the Greens?

I see the Bondi Royal Commission has devolved into ‘someone once said something nasty to me because I am Jewish’. We all despise prejudice against ANYONE based on race or religion but why is legitimate criticism of the state of Israel over genocide of Palestinians always recast as anti-semitism?

And as for all you fiscal warriors out there insisting on transparency and accountability with the NDIS, where were you Albanese signed us up with ZERO parliamentary scrutiny to the $370 AUKUS submarine boondoggle? You want to talk about our money down the toilet, well start there!!

ALP too scared to take on the gas industry that strips billions from our country each year; but not shy about kicking the crutches out from under hundreds of thousands of disabled Australians. So gutsy Albo.

Butler declaring the government has to take the ‘hard’ decisions on the NDIS. Oh FFS, this isn’t hard when you have the far right lining up to hit the disabled even harder in the name of fiscal rectitude. The legacy parties need to be smashed at the next election.
