When I moved to durham, i realized i had become part of the community when i successfully lobbied the city to install a bus shelter at the stop nearest my house. Nearly 5 years into my stay in Ireland, i have gotten the State to install a bus stop sign at the stop nearest my house. Progress!

Me: Can i schedule my vaccines? I’m off to a third world country in October and i want to make sure i’m protected. GP: Of course. Here’s the link to book online. May i ask where you’re going? Me: Florida

Hakeem Jefferies: "The question is whether Republicans will join us.” Dems can have leadership that thinks they need Republicans to do stuff, or they can have leadership that believes winning power by motivating the base and apathetic non-voters is the way to go. But not both

The guys who did the 2008 renovations on my house did a decent job on the hardwood floors on the top storey. My best guess is they lifted whatever was on top of the wood on the 1st floor landing and said, nope, let's just throw some carpet on that. I should have learned something from them

I'm making these wings from a recipe in the Guardian, and I noticed this part, and I'm thinking, how the fuck does anyone think 500 grams (just over a pound) of wings can go around for 6 people? #recipes

Everyone already knew that Infantino had less backbone than your average garden slug. The guy who's going to take the biggest hit to his reputation going forward is Pocchetino. Utterly lacking in integrity, and I actually liked the guy up till this week. Was very hard done by at Chelsea

I will never understand why every one of the previous owners of my 190 year old house decided to slap more paint on these doors, instead of stripping them down. Yeah, it’s a shit load of work, but it will be worth it

I see half a dozen posts a day of "if Obama (or Biden) had done X, the media would have exploded, yet Trump does X squared and no one says boo." The answer is simple. Under Democrats, the US had a functional, aggressive opposition party. Under Trump, the US has Democrats

I’ve been waiting all day on a delivery of a pretty expensive item via DHL. their tracking page has simply said “by end of day” since early this morning. Their chatbot disconnects me whenever i try to get it to pin down what exactly “end of day” might mean in this context …

That Irish paint suppliers haven’t figured out that tossing in a few branded mixing sticks (from either the retailer or manufacturer) on a multi-hundred euro order makes sense, will never not be amusing to me. Some of the cheapest marketing imaginable to build brand loyalty

I live on a street in a village where 75%-85% of drivers exceed the speed limit. It's unsafe for me to cross the street in front of my house. Is there anyone in Ireland who thinks I have the right to get 3 or 4 of my neighbours to block the street with their cars in protest?

When I moved to Ireland 4(!) years ago, one of the qualities I most appreciated was the light, especially in the evening. This winter has been overwhelmingly grey, and tonight is the first night I've felt like taking a photo in quite a while

When I left the theater on Sunday, I was thinking that Project Hail Mary was an entertaining enough film. Over the past couple of days, I've realized that between the abysmal science, the plot beats lifted directly from ET, and the sophomoric trolley problem plot device, it actually sucks
