I was at #allthingsopen this week and I came away inspired! 💜 The open source community spirit is strong, even in these uncertain times. The schedule was packed, and I didn't get to see everything I wanted to, so I'm looking forward to the videos!

I've been working with #A2UI recently, and I have mixed feelings. As an interface boundary, its great. In practice, it highlights how badly we need a standard protocol for talking to agents. - Using #A2A, a2ui content is signaled by mime type - otherwise, its just wrapped in <a2ui-json> tags 🤢

"agent" is ambiguous. I have seen it refer to different things recently, and I'm hoping we have better vocabulary for these soon 🫣 1. a local "off the shelf" agent like Claude code. 2. scratch built harness and tools, backed by a model (or configurable) what do you call these? have you tried #2?

I built a "write-only" AI agent to draft & queue social posts via the buffer.com remote MCP server—so I can share ideas consistently without getting trapped in "The Feed." Read the whole post: www.marcdougherty.com/2026/buildin... (yes, i still read comments myself!)

"Programming is writing code. Software engineering is building durable systems." Cameron Balahan on Go + AI: Go's platform tooling supports reviewers. It handles the details so you can focus on the big picture. Full article: developers.googleblog.com/why-go-is-an...

developers.googleblog.comWhy Go is an Ideal Language for AI-Assisted Software EngineeringAs AI shifts software engineering from writing to reviewing, discover how Go's strict compiler and unified toolchain ensure reliable AI-generated code.

Before AI hit, the tech industry was focused on supply chain security. Now I'm hearing folks questioning the value of human review of AI generated code. I know it's a pendulum but I'm getting dizzy 😵‍💫

I wrote up my thoughts on a new pattern of AI Agent use i'm calling the "Chief of Staff" -- (www.marcdougherty.com/2026/ai-agen... ). In short, I talk to one agent, the chief of staff, who knows my preferences. They are responsible for interfacing with other agents to achieve my goals.

marcdougherty.comAI Agent PatternsI’ve seen a lot of different uses of AI Agents in the last year, both in my own experimentation, and from colleagues. I’ve been thinking about the usage patterns I’m noticing lately, and what kinds…

This separates the user-specific bits from more general know-how (like how to use an API), so that these general agents can be centrally run. There's a bunch of tricky auth here (user auth, delegated auth, and agent identity), but there always is with distributed systems! 😅

I've been thinking about the way we're "packaging" AI agent capabilities recently. We've seen MCP, CLIs, and Skills but they all require a lot of deep integration and/or configuration with one's own agent. What if "agent" is the right size package?

This creates what i'm currently calling the "Chief of Staff" pattern. I talk directly to my CoS agent, and it delegates to sub-agents. I'm exploring the A2A (Agent to Agent) protocol for this, and i like that it has Tasks, and the "skills" list in the Agent Card. Time to build a prototype!

How do you let AI agents edit your Google Sheets or Analytics without exposing raw credentials? 🤖🔑 In my latest post, I share how I built Google OAuth into my personal MCP server to act as a trust boundary, protecting keys while enabling agent tools. www.marcdougherty.com/2026/mcp-ser...

All the talks from Google I/O have been published on Youtube, including "What's New in Go" (www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4ln... ) There isnt a full playlist yet, but all videos are here: www.youtube.com/@googlecloud... There's Cloud Next content mixed in there, too, in case you missed it!

Go has a reputation for being great for API backends and CLI tools, but it gets used in many other ways. What's your most unusual/fringe use of Go? Some of my favorites are a company that uses Go to control satellites, and the Ebitengine game engine, which can build games for the Nintendo Switch!

Are you tired of copying AGENTS.md files all over the place? Do you lose track of edits? (I do!) I built a tiny Go MCP server that embeds a directory full of prompts, so getting the latest version is just a `go install` away! I wrote about my approach here: www.marcdougherty.com/2026/managin...

marcdougherty.comManaging prompts with a personal MCP serverThe term “prompt engineering” makes it sound complex, but like many developers using AI today, I’m frequently revising my prompts to improve the outcomes. But, it’s easy to lose track of which prompt…

I balk at the phrase "10x", but I like this collection of Go patterns: blog.jetbrains.com/go/2025/10/1... I don't *completely* agree with #5 (wrap errors) - there's sometimes a good case for making errors opaque by not wrapping. Agree that looking at strings is definitely *not the way*. 🫠
