That wonderful little period after you send off a script to an admired director and can fantasize that they're gonna call you the next day saying "I couldn't put this down! I'm in!"

I was talking at a party to a showrunner friend who was really candid about how much pressure there is right now from networks for shows to use AI to cut costs-- mainly on things like faking aerial shots and doing inserts for things that were missed during shooting.

Rogue trooper blew me away! Funny, thrilling, visually spectacular, and so very British. A delight for neophytes and longtime fans of 2000 A.D. comics alike!

I really liked the choice to push the character designs toward caricature. So many wonderfully ugly faces (in a distinctively British way with big ears and teeth and bony chins) that helped keep the polished Unreal Engine visuals from feeling too much like video game cut scenes.

The Saudi armed forces are so incredibly bad at fighting despite having 400 combat aircraft and spending twice as much on their military as Israel for the last 40 years, you almost have to admire their dedication.

I used my Thor and X-Men residual money to take my dad on a trip to Tibet and Nepal in 2013, and we crossed the border at the exact place where the landslide hit. It's horrifying and heartbreaking to see what's happened there.

So what movies are we all most looking forward to over the next couple months? I loved the novel of The Dog Stars and am a longtime Ridley fan, so I'm really hopeful for that one.

David Bowie's song "Five Years," which Meta used in a supposedly inspiring advertisement, is about humans learning that they have five years left to live before the apocalypse.

When I was first developing Camp Cretaceous one of the things Colin Trevorrow and I were both adamant about was that the dinosaurs should be animals, not monsters. That was always a huge part of how the great Sam Neill played Alan Grant & became fundamental to the franchise DNA. R.I.P.

The best gimmick account on Twitter has migrated over here-- best use case for BlueSky yet.

Travel for the upcoming #IndependenceDay weekend is expected to be crazier than it's EVER been. We've got parties kicking in Dallas, Miami, Kansas City, Houston, Philadelphia, and New York, not to mention Los Angeles and the nation's capital.

Seeing people in Lawrence and Kansas City roll out the red carpet for the Algerian national team is reminding me how much I love the basic decency, kindness, and sincere curiosity of Midwesterners. They remind me of my dad's Ohio relatives.

This Obsession/Backrooms thing feels like a genuine cultural moment in moviegoing, watching Zoomers who honed their craft doing Youtube shorts breaking into features the way New Hollywood did in the '70s, the MTV directors did in the '80s and Sundance kids did in the '90s.

The normie reactions to the recent Ben Sasse interviews suggest that under the surface we're a far less polarized country than we appear to be at first glance. A lot of liberal-left people in my circles have been downright delighted to find a conservative they can like and admire.
