Actually I just want to cry when friends say this, because it's clear that they aren't remembering what Jesus actually said.

Lack of civility in public speech has been epidemic during the past decade. The actual Christian goal: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. ” Ephesians 4:29 NIV

What we believe may not be true. First impressions can spark unnecessary reactions. @glynniscampbell.bsky.social writes about honor, integrity, passion and deception motivating two warriors to seek revenge, only to discover common causes that will bind them together or tear them apart. #booksky

So, it's good to be woke: "But everything exposed by the light becomes visible - and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. That is why it is said, 'Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.'" (Ephesians 5:13-14, the Bible, NIV). #woke #Christian #Epsteinfiles

I spent time at the Democratic Party booth and worked at the American Legion booth during the Lansing, Kansas Fall Fest today. I talked with Mika Stillwell and Richard Paz, both of whom are running for state legislature seats. Good people, Kansans. Vote for them, Kansans!

Recent days in North Dakota visiting National Parks surrounded by oil derricks made this meme a resounding truth for me. #environment #ecology #sustainable #nationalparks

I voted early in person today in Leavenworth County, Kansas. Straight Democrat including one write-in - Michael Waymon Summers for County Commission, District 4 (no Dem candidate). You're invited to vote for me, too, if you live here. #Kansas #vote #election2026

Things that have gone brutally wrong in the last twenty months. Don't forget the cherry trees by public golf courses and national parks.

The traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall is in front of the Leavenworth VA Hospital this week through Sunday. I visited to honor my Uncle Jimmie (James F Akins) and to talk with Vietnam Veterans. #veterans

This historical fiction tells of Smith College alumnae who volunteered in France in World War 1. They battled language/culture, gender prejudices, sarcasm, and being in a combat zone. Some also deal with sexual assault trauma. This was an inspirational story despite their hardships. #booksky

Theodore Roosevelt's platform in the Presidential election in 1912 foreshadowed societal change in the USA. Progressive indeed! From my recent visit to the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library. #elections #culture

We need to listen better to victims of violence, and remember that while they are still in shock or afraid, the abused may not make the decisions they should have made in terms of speaking out or pressing charges #Cornell7 time.com/article/2026...

time.comThe Cornell 7 Case Demands More Than Outrage“National outrage helps shake people up enough to pay attention,” writes Tarana Burke. “But culture won't shift just because we change laws and elect better politicians.”

I ate tonight at amost enjoyable restaurant with amazing barbecue and galactic ambience: Space Aliens in Bismarck, North Dakota. Loved the tender brisket and "Martian Munchies." Sadly, only three locations so far.

Marie Bottineau Baldwin was an attorney and advocate for women voting. This plaque honors her. As some Republicans push rescinding the 19th Amendment or enacting "household voting," we must redouble efforts to protect the rights of women and individuals to vote. #elections #suffrage #vote #politics

Charles Dickens's skewering of a labyrinthine court system unveils stories of characters who surrender their lives in hope of a favorable verdict. Will stewards, faithful servants, and heirs survive corruption and intrigue? The novel's length highlights the abuses that Dickens attacks. #booksky

In poetic prose, the author intertwines the pains of forbidden love with grief over a lover, a child, and a parent when the protagonist loses each too soon. Can forgiveness effect reconciliation? Does God hear her prayers? How can she keep grief from aborting her potential happiness? #booksky

The Run/Walk for the Fallen at Fort Leavenworth remembers the military members who died for our country but also honors their families. This morning (Saturday) I walked the three miles as I remembered my uncle and friends of mine as well as their survivors.

1) Argentine grandmothers banded together to search for state-kidnapped children and grandchildren over fifty years. This is a saga of hard worn partial victory, with sacrifices, setbacks, estrangement, and celebration. #booksky

2) The tragic kidnapping of suspected opponents of the Argentina government during the late 1970s and its fraught aftermath are recounted by the author, who conducted painstaking research and sometimes difficult interviews while seeking truth and striving to practice good ethics.

3) There are similarities in the early years to the kidnapping of Ukrainian children by Russia: recent political developments in Argentina echo what is happening in the United States, where scientific research is defunded and history is rewritten. #booksky

Yes, the Braves are underrated in this ranking of MLB teams on odds of making the World Series. They're ranked behind two teams (Dodgers and Phillies) that they beat handily face to face during the season. They also are several games ahead of the Phillies in the NL East division race. #sports #MLB

mlb.comUnderselling? Overselling? Let's break down World Series oddsAs of Friday morning, FanGraphs’ playoff odds were giving the Dodgers a 28.6% chance of winning the World Series -- more than double the odds of any other MLB team. This begs an interesting question: ...

We have less than two months to focus on changing the toxic policies being enacted now. We won't do that by undercutting our own candidates because they're not perfectly aligned with our slice of the Democratic Party or our personal opinion. #election

Enough with the infighting. The election is too close and we have bigger fish to fry.

Trapped in a wreck during a snowstorm, stepfather Eddie tells 9 year-old Daphne a story. Decades later, reunited, they reflect on that week's events and why he disappeared shortly after the wreck. Grief, sexuality, legacy, and family/work/friend relationships all are in a well told tale. #booksky

AOC impresses me more and more. Her comments here really need to be heard and pondered. I read too many posts that I yearn to share but cannot because of the kind of language that she discussed here

Thank you for your courage to publicly address abusive language.

A young Cherokee girl yearns to go into space, and resists any interference. Her other obsession is seeking lesbian partners, spurning commitment. Family relationships are ignored, until they aren't. Narrative, journal entries, blog posts, an obituary, and perhaps a dream advance the plot. #booksky

Three observations: 1. Like other reviewers, I question whether Steph really would pass a NASA psychological assessment. 2. Donald Trump was the 44th person elected President of the US, not the 45th. 3. The author captures well the impact of Trump's election on Cherokees, Muslims and LBGT people.

Adam Hamilton is the clear choice for U. S. Senator for Kansans if you value honesty and concern for people #kansas

Happy Star Trek Day!

I remember the original series well. I was 9 years old. For years, I harbored hope that our space program would begin to "boldly go," and that they would let me explore with them. I would have been a good ship counselor/Chaplain (yes, a TNG role, but the one I was qualified to fill).
