Just some guy

Many years ago, I bumped into a guy, here in town. Totally my own fault. I was looking over my shoulder for a gap in the traffic, to cross the road. Embarrassed, I braced myself for the inevitable "Watch where you're going, you feckin' eejit!" that 99% of people here would've uttered. Instead, he

started to help me pick up all the stuff that I had dropped. I started to thank him and saw that it was Glen Hansard. I was surprised, so can't really remember exactly what he said, but it was along the lines of "You okay?", and he gave me a warm smile, before setting off on his way. It was 90

seconds, maximum, but there was a warmth and friendliness that excuded from him that stuck with me for a long time afterwards. RIP Glen 💔

Thanks for the reminder @janemunday.bsky.social. Every summer, I repost this article DROWNING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DROWNING. To date, I know of FOUR kids who were saved after someone who'd clicked on the link learnt how to spot actual drowning. Take time to read and pass on. slate.com/technology/2...

Kamala warned everyone many times that "If Trump wins, we will enter a recession by the middle of next year."…..at this rate we're ahead of schedule

I hate guns, I am not a gun person, I will not live in a house with guns in it--I've seen the statistics--yet I must say, the Eddie Redmayne remake of Day of the Jackal has given me a very unexpected aesthetic appreciation of sniper rifles

I’m a sucker for understatement. George RR Martin is rightly lauded for his epic sense of historical, geographical, and narrative scale… … but it’s the *understatement* that lands, for me. All that invisible contextual weight, pressing down onto a single, simple, subjective human moment.

Listen, I'm Irish and I love Katie Taylor - our greatest ever athlete - but there is no way she won that fight. Wow! #TaylorSerrano #Taylor #Serrano

I watched the fight again (this time without any buffering). It was a much tighter fight than I originally thought. It could've gone either way. I would've had no complaints if Serrano got the decision, but Taylor winning wasn't the major injustice the Netflix commentary team were making it out to be
