And then the book has some of the songs that go with capoeira, like "a hora é essa" (the time is now) (6/?)

The book also introduces you to the instruments that accompany capoeira. Here's the atabaque, a drum (5/?)

As promised in the title, the book starts with first steps, illustrated by this wonderful young practitioner (you may think you could handle doing meia lua de frente, but wait till you see meia lua de compasso) (2/?)

My copy of @akemiart.bsky.social 's beautiful CAPOEIRA: FIRST STEPS (@mythictexture.bsky.social ) arrived yesterday, and it's every bit as beautiful as I thought it would be. A thread (1/?) bsky.app/profile/myth...

I really want to go to this. Not for any particular reason than to be surrounded by art and books. Somedays, it's really hard to keep up the enthusiasm when creativity is treated like a production line.

Almost 1k new people found my little cloud in this sky in less than a day. Thank you so much! I'm Dianita, fantasy artist from Mexico currently in TX. You'll find that I love Medusa and that I include animals in most of my art. I illustrated a tarot deck for Llewellyn too! (March 2025). 🥰

To fully understand "Sinners" and the world of the Smokestack twins, we need to explore the Rust Belt Gothik, the tradition of Black speculative survival strategies forged in response to the pressures of the Great Migration

Unfortunately, the book release has been delayed.

"As the artist and writer of Capoeira: First Steps. I realize that when I switched to focusing on my art & writing full-time, I left a lot of my fitness & health behind. Capoeira was not really a fitness thing however. It was an art that I enjoyed practicing." - @akemiart.bsky.social

I was just thinking happily of new projects to work on. Then found a stash of projects I never finished. My internal snarky self looked me up and down like this.

I will be at the Black Flea Market this Sat, Feb 28th. Come on down to see me and a diversity of art from Black vendors at 316 W 5th Ave 1-6pm. I'll be promoting my new picture book, Capoeira: First Steps. This book is out March 7th.

HORSE YEAR begins during BLACK HISTORY MONTH so it's CREAKY ACRES time, one of our favorite all ages graphic novels from 2025. Among many reasons why we love it is that it's not your well trotted "kid who's different and in a new town proves herself in a field where kids like her are rare" story. 🧵

It's RAMADAN and HORSE YEAR during BLACK HISTORY MONTH so it's time to post the AFRONIA UNICORN series! These lil' fillies gotta go fast to save their world's many unique hues from the crushing monolithic color-draining evil Madame Imperious bookshop.org/a/120917/978...
