From the small sketchbook of my great-great-aunt Mathilde Pajeken (1842–1913) #12: A houseboat at a wooden boarding pier. I decipher the inscription as “Am Sande, Steg 5” (?) ("At the Sand, pier 5"), but I am not sure about that. I think this is somewhere along the Weser river.

"Trickle-down" has never worked. To make it work, you have to implement it. Implementation involves much higher taxes on large fortunes, high incomes, and large inheritances. Without enforcement, the rich will grab everything they can for themselves, i.e. they will implement “stream-up” instead.

I suggest the 10th boundary is the sustainable size of the economy and our economic growth has gone through that boundary as well already, driving the whole global system across the other boundaries as well. Its the economy, stupid. www.scientificamerican.com/article/9-bo...

Suberic acid with salol, crystallizing from the melt, #4: another phase transition starts when the material cools down further. The striped pattern that resulted from twinning is replaced by grains of a new lattice structure that gradually takes over (it started in #3 in the right lower corner).

Suberic acid with salol, crystallizing from the melt, #3: further cooling leads to a phase transition. A lattice transformation changes angles of the crystalls, but they have no room to shift. The resulting tensions causes them to adapt shape by forming a zigzag pattern, a process called "twinning".

It looks like youtube plays this with a slightly increased speed. Maybe it was recorded with a low frame rate on a simple device. You can reduce the speed a little.

From the small sketchbook of my great-great-aunt Mathilde Pajeken (1842–1913) #8: windmill and sailing boat (a cutter, I think). Mathilde's father, Eduard Pajeken, was a Captain on large sailing ships. I guess he had taught her some knowledge about rigging, since her sketches are quite detailed.

Mathilde's father, Eduard Pajeken, who is also my great-great-grandfather, is the author of "Hülfsbuch zur practischen Erlernung der englischen Sprache für den deutschen Seemann" (1855), a guidebook for seafarers to learn English. Some libraries in northern Germany have a copy.

From the small sketchbook of my great-great-aunt Mathilde Pajeken (1842–1913) #9: Three sailing boats. On the right side, in the background, in front of the shore visible on the horizon, there seems to be another boat and a windmill. Two of the boats (left and middle) have gaff-topped sails.

From the small sketchbook of my great-great-aunt Mathilde Pajeken (1842–1913) #7: a waterfront with houses, trees, and a pier with a steamboat and sailboats.

From the small sketchbook of my great-great-aunt Mathilde Pajeken (1842–1913) #6: a cutter with a dinghy, a ketch, and another vessel, presumably also a ketch. Judging by the shape of the hulls, these may be flat-bottomed boats, which would suggest that the sketch was made in the Wadden Sea region.

From the small sketchbook of my great-great-aunt Mathilde Pajeken (1842–1913) #5: sketch of a boat with cutter rigging. After the initial sketches showing women, the remaining sketches are predominantly of boats. This might be from a trip along the Weser river since Mathilde was from Bremen.
