While most people prefer equal inheritance, wealthy individuals are more willing to support unequal transfers when they help preserve wealth across generations ➡️ based on new experimental evidence now published with @natrinh.bsky.social and @dariatisch.bsky.social in @sfjournal.bsky.social

📢 QSS-CLS Seminar Series: #Class origin, intergenerational transfers, and the gender wealth gap @natrinh.bsky.social uncovers how gendered parental wealth transfers drive #WealthInequality, with the largest #GenderGap at the top of the class hierarchy. ⏰Dec 4th, 1pm: www.ucl.ac.uk/ioe/events/2...

My paper on the effect of social policy reform on educational inequality published in #JOSP now finally has a volume and issue number! It took a while 🤯 I find that #Hartz4 in 🇩🇪 led to a drop in chances to enter upper sec school for children living in affected families doi.org/10.1017/S00472

Unfortunately, 20 years after the Hartz reforms, policymakers still struggle to implement adequate protection against child poverty in Germany. E.g. due to the collapse of the recent coalition, reforms planned for 2025 will not be be introduced #Kindergrundsicherung

Brian Nolan has shaped research on economic and social inequality for nearly five decades. On the occasion of his retirement, @inetoxford.bsky.social has compiled an overview of his impressive work: www.inet.ox.ac.uk/ne... To me, he's also been an amazing PhD supervisor and mentor!

Hello Bluesky community! I'm very happy to share a new paper in ESR with @betthaeuser.bsky.social & Anette Fasang with y'all: We use German Microcensus data to study the prevalence of parental non-standard work contracts and schedules and their relationship with children's education 🧐⬇️

Bastian Betthaeuser@betthaeuser.bsky.social

📣New paper with @natrinh.bsky.social & A. Fasang in the Eur. Sociol. Rev.   👉Key findings: About half of all children in Germany have a parent with a non-standard work contract or schedule. But only mothers' non-standard schedules are associated with children’s education   doi.org/10.1093/esr/...

You are up to date.
