After the 2026 Six Nations, as well as the away games to both Argentina, & South Africa, I’m left in a complete muddle somewhere between Scotland could well win 3 from 3 this Autumn. Yet, being Scotland, they could also quite easily lose two of those as well. It never gets any easier, does it?! 🙄

The vast majority of post-incident discussion I read or listened to believed Holly D correct. So basically, Jones argued otherwise on his personal social media, he was challenged for it, so decided to abuse his BBC platform (with his mate) to throw a referee under the bus. Jones is a piece of sh!t.

Ugo Monye said on the RUW podcast today "Hollie Davidson got it wrong [on the Neti red card last week]. It's not a discussion, it's just a fact, she was wrong". Their point was that permanent red cards are supposed to be for out and out thuggery & this should've been a 20-min red. Not sure I agree.

Remember, even if player X hasn’t been named today. There’s still every chance we’ll see them named, and line up for Scotland, later in the Autumn…(although why Ollie B-L isn’t anchoring that scrum at TH when Zander goes off is anyone’s guess?!?)

Right, Toonie…let’s see it.

Righto, Scotland supporters. Squad gets named next week. Anyone think there will be surprising additions - and if so, who? Any returning, previously capped options who’ve rediscovered their past form? Etc…?

That looked like a tucked elbow clean by Furlong. Despite the gentle giant PR, he’s a player who has at times crossed well over that line.

R Ntamack on to replace him & has already knocked on two soft passes. Don’t wish ill on any player, but it’s nice to see French rugby social media struggle. If you’re a non-French Forward in the top14, you tend to be fine. But if you’re a Back, and worse keeping a France player out, you’re a target.

Kinghorn back from injury and started at Ten today for Toulouse. He’s just been subbed off after an hour of pretty impressive stuff, during which Toulouse have scored six tries.

Something you won’t always see Rowe get recognition for, but which is hugely important, is his ability to read a drift defence, decide not to take the low percentage option outside, and instead go back in - and into contact, to set a recycle & generate phases the other way. He’s excellent at it.

The double switch move off the 13 channel on that Glasgow attack was so good, and so slickly executed, it didn’t give Benetton enough time to buy the dummy. Lovely move. Would work superbly at Test Match level.

After Sco lost to Can & NZ earlier this year, I said out those results weren’t concerning as NZ were 3rd best team in World, while Can were pushing Eng to be the best. However, that (albeit narrow) loss away to Australia IS concerning. We’re now 10th in the World. That’s major drop off in short time

Liam McConnell played 12 times for Scotland u20’s. He was good, but it’s always difficult to properly assess age-grade talent. However, his growth at Edinburgh - and his brief cameo for Scotland, suggest he may be something special. He’s still young & has much to learn. But potentially very special.

Fully deserved win tonight. Starting to grow into a settled, ambitious, but crucially effective squad (at last). They’re obviously not yet the finished article, but considerably stronger in so many key areas where they were previously poor.

An interesting game at Gloucester. Bath being held up at least four times already, while Gloucester have been hilariously illegal virtually every time Bath have been near their try line…but it’s working for Glos as they’re in the lead. Not sure it’s a wise approach going forward, but tonight…

There are many reasons why I savour Scotland’s continued rugby dominance over England. However, one of the (admittedly) unhealthiest, yet most smile inducing, is knowing the likes of Ben Kay - who seems to revel in pointing out the flaws of any Scotland player in the Prem, will also be watching…😁

Also want to say that neutrals may look at those Australia cards & think it was harshly refereed. It wasn’t. Australia could well have lost multiple players to twenty minute reds during the first half alone. Officials were VERY lenient with what was a highly troubling Australia approach to that game

Very close. Some strong positives. Also still a lot of overdue work-ons. We need to be better in some basic areas. Especially if we’re gunning for wins away from home.

Twent minute red shouldn’t discount those observations - but it does open a window here today…

Second half continues to prove a problem. Some of the fundamentals fall off with fatigue, and personnel changes. Need to work on a number of core elements post-Autumn, including the underlying system(s). However, great to see those on debut wear the thistle.

Curtis Gregory with one of the worst cheap shots I’ve seen in rugby since Callum Clarke. Should be a lifetime ban. Absolutely sickening attempt to cripple an opponent.

Leinster, famous for their conveyer belt of young talent, have instead of selecting one of them decided to put their Hooker at Eight. Because nothing says ‘highly valued youth development’ like punting your international Two at the back of the scrum vs Munster! 👀

I see the Visser news is now public. Regardless of whether any institution had prior knowledge, or not. This is an ideal opportunity to draw a line in the sand & push a wholly unequivocal position on what is, and what is not, considered acceptable - at ANY school, university, club or pro team.

I cannot for one moment imagine its true. However, it’s been suggested by an insider that Newcastle Red Bulls ultimate aim isn’t the Prem, but rather the URC. They intend to seek a move away from what they consider to be the ‘closed shop’ of the Prem, to a more globally focused alternative.

With Ireland only naming two uncapped players in their November squad, you have to imagine it means Andy Farrell already has his World Cup team fully mature. So Henshaw and Aki for Australia 2027 it is then!

Obviously, the game versus Ireland may well go in Scotland’s favour - and I sincerely hope it does! However, in the event it goes with Ireland, and Scotland end up playing France in the knockout rounds, it makes anything gleaned from that double-header warmup potentially hugely valuable!

Just heard from the ‘rugby experts’ at The Times that Glasgow are one of the ‘biggest spending clubs in Europe’… Who knew?!?

Do it! Can’t be any worse than Sam Prendergast…👀

Hugo Gordon@hugogordon.bsky.social

I would personally love it if Owen Farrell ended up playing for Ireland. I don't think it's particularly any more likely than Jack Willis playing for Ireland.

Spot on call too! Shoulder direct to head with a tucked arm and no wrap, is always illegal. It’s a violent action, not a failed tackle attempt. Good to see a referee enforce it.

Permanent red? Yikes. Not seen one of them for a while

I mean, I get the joke. But Hastings was excellent tonight - and is a test match standard Ten (when he can be arsed), while Price is a Test Lion Nine, who kept Murray out of the Lions lineup & has delivered in a big way for MHR since landing. Not a 9-10 combination to be sniffed at, even these days!

dog botherer@dogbotherer.bsky.social

conceded 25 unanswered points to the creative axis of Price/Hastings/Hogg. at home. in 2026.

Hastings with an impressive outing for Montpellier tonight, while Price continues to excel there. Bath a bit of a mess, however, with dropped balls over try lines, squandered chances five out, failed lineouts, weak breakdown work, and Finn being intercepted while shovelling bad ball along the line.

Bit of a reality check for Prem aficionados. Party line has been that high scores were down to attacking flair, rather than weak defending. Argument being if Prem teams can tempt opponents into a looser affair, they’ll thrive. High-scoring losses this weekend suggest they’ll struggle regardless.

Noah Caluori is an impressive young talent against Prem teams. However, his deficiencies were writ large tonight by a pacey & inventive Connacht. He had to repeatedly make pressured decisions on the move, and he rarely picked well. He’ll impress again vs likes of Sale, or Exeter - but much to learn.
