When Alicia first traveled back in time in 17th century Cromwellian England, she encounters Mistress Lovelock & Moungeye. They saw how pretty she is & tricked her into coming to their brothel under false pretense as charity. Lovelock got her "daughters" (Minnie, Bess, Molly, & Jill) to cozy her up🧵

Damarose Lovelock was described (in Alicia's eyes) as plain, aged, and pockmarked. Moungeye is described as dirty-faced, scrawny, long-nosed, with "leering eyes" and a "ratty smile"

The jerk/bad characters can either be brutally honest or habitual liars with no shame about it. Supernatural creatures who are unable to lie tend to use a play on words, exaggerations, fabrications, twisting words, etc.

Other times, my characters would lie or deny things ala Mary Poppins-- deny they did fantastical or outrageous things for the sake of propriety and manners. To save face.

The only organized religion is in the antagonistic nation of Magalote; with their idols, flagellations, witch-burnings, selling indulgences, snake handling, speaking in tongues, sabbath days, male clergy, etc. The Magalotians worship a cruel pantheon of dark, dreaded, demonic deities & spirits 🧵3/?

#OctoberWorldbuilders, good morning friends! This one is broad and open-ended, and you can use your own words to describe it, not just what I've suggested: What is the overall vibe of your work? Where would it be on a dark-cozy scale? Or a fantasy-scifi scale? Or romance-nonromantic scale?

I would also like to add that my story is essentially Labyrinth but but a loose retelling of The Wild Swans by Hans Christian Andersen There's a romantic subplot but it's really about the Heroine accepting her queer & social identity, inner strength, and personal growth 🧵

The story starts and ends as a historical fiction (1920s-30s) Then the large middle is a portal fantasy set in Otherworld, the realm of the Fae and curious or fantastical places.
