And if you’ve never messed around with wavetable synths, check out the upcoming demos of the N/Vision, or the Micro/Mini Freak or even an old Ensoniq ESQ-1 or SQ-80 — or the grand pappy of them all, the PPG. Fun stuff! 8/

Anyone have any thoughts on the new Rolands? Any plans to get one or both? Anyone own an original Jupiter 8, and if so, can I come over and just kinda… gaze… upon it? (Or is that creepy?) 9/9

In the end, while both of these are cool, I’d rather put my funds toward something outside the box of tools I’ve already got. I have poly & mono subtractive synths & wavetable synths & FM synths & romplers. Analog & digital & hybrid. If I can’t make music with ALL THAT, gear isn’t the issue. 6/

But for anyone who wants a classic-sounding poly synth for under $600 and they don’t mind the small keyboard - maybe that’s a bonus! - I suspect this new Jupiter will be a great choice. (And who knows… I might succumb!) 7/

The N/vision intrigues me — wavetable synths can sound really cool. But I’ve had my eye on a used Micro Freak, which has that as one of its engines, and I’ve already got an Ensoniq ESQ-1. And both of those have analog filters to warm up the digital waveforms. 4/

So I’m not sure how the N/vision would distinguish itself in my rig. Though from what little I’ve read, it has some cool blending options and stuff — I bet it sounds really nice. I’ll wait until ppl demo it on YouTube, I guess, and maybe I’ll change my mind. 5/

While I don’t think I need either of these, I can understand why some people might find them exciting. The Jupiter 8 was one of the finest synths ever made, but today costs thousands of dollars. If the new 08 sounds close to the original, that’s a winner. 2/

And purists will knock the analog simulation or the small size or blah blah blah. But fuck ‘em. It probably sounds great in the mix and if people are comfortable with the smaller user interface, more power to ‘em! 3/

And if you haven’t seen 1983’s vampire masterpiece The Hunger, that’s your homework assignment for this Halloween season. It’s so good! Sexy vampires — played by David Bowie & Catherine Deneuve! — that don’t fucking SPARKLE. #Vampires #Bowie #TheHunger #Goth #Halloween

Found an OG copy of Killing Joke’s Pandemonium at the local flea market today. I’m not normally a shrink-wrap guy, but that Tower Records price sticker kills me. I remember buying the album on CD when it first came out back in 94. #KillingJoke #PostPunk #Industrial #VinylCollector

On the road a LOT for the next two weeks. Will try to update with cool stuff ( mostly art- & gaming related). But I’ll be back in the thick of Negative Agent shit soon! Big NA announcement coming… also soon! In the meantime, I got this rad 10- and 12-stage phaser. 🤘

After recording & rejecting riff after riff & shaking off cobwebs & finding the little ball of nuclear fire that fuels this fucking machine, I finally have the bones of a song I’m happy with. So I guess I’m starting the next Negative Agent album. ⚙️🖤 #IndustrialMusic #IndustrialMetal #Metal

I found #SimonBisley ‘s art in 1990; its nervy aggressive beauty melted my brain. I started reading #StanSakai ’s #UsagiYojimbo around then & fell in love with his effortless storytelling & fluid lines. Got drawings from both at NYCC ‘26 & now I’m so happy. #NYCC #JudgeDredd #OriginalArt #FuckAI

Just to expand on the Sakai story: I first met the legendary artist and writer in 2006 when I commissioned a drawing from him at San Diego Comic Con. So this really was a wonderful full-circle moment. Here’s a photo of that drawing, featuring Space Usagi! 2/2

When exactly do I have enough cable? When I can I stop making “one more run” to the store? I’m surrounded by miles of it… lol #HomeStudio #ElectronicMusic #Synthsky #MusicProduction #IndustrialMusic

Hell yeah!

This morning, the D&D team and Magic's Studio X informed our leadership of our intent to unionize. We love the games we make and the work we do, and unionizing is how we protect that work. unitedwizardsofthecoast.com/news/dnd-stu...

Buncha new followers recently. Thanks & welcome! I wanted to take a moment to apologize for all the cursing. I curse a lot. Even when it’s like, “Wow, these little kids really stepped up to fucking fight cancer!” Totally age- & subject- inappropriate. So… like… fucking sorry about that. ⚙️🖤

I have a few gamers following me. I mostly post about music & politics, but I’ve been playing TTRPGs for 40 years so that content pops up! Currently planning a massive Call of Cthulhu game & gearing one up for Cy_Borg (based on the Mörk Borg system). 🧵1/2 #TTRPG #DnD #RPGs #Gaming #CallOfCthulhu

Oh, it’s ON. Drawmer DS 201 dual gate. This is how you get distinctly 80s-sounding rhythmic pads. Triggering the gate externally & using its envelopes to shape the sound creates something magical. It’s gonna be so much fun using this! 🧵1/2 #ElectronicMusic #MusicProduction #IndustrialMusic #Synthsky

Because I’m a GIANT FUCKING NERD, I snagged a DS 201 from the Eighties. They still make them (now with balanced XLR ins and outs), but I like having a bit of history. (Again: giant nerd.) Used costs a LOT less, too. $200-$300 shipped is normal. New ones are $1000+. Soooo… Used wins! ⚙️🖤

Tear Garden isn’t a band I ever expected to see live. Since releasing their first of many records in 1985, they’ve played exactly ZERO shows. NOBODY thought it would happen, but there I was last night as they kicked total ass at NYC’s Le Poisson Rouge. 🧵/1 #IndustrialMusic #Goth #ElectronicMusic

Afterward, I was lucky enough to chat with the band outside the show — they were all as astonished as the fans that the tour finally happened. And also humbled that so many people cared. Everyone was really friendly. 4/

Meeting cEvin Key was a particular thrill, and I talked about it in my last post. I’m still coming down from that high. All in all, it really was a perfect nigh. 🖤⚙️

Tear Garden is a collaboration between the Legendary Pink Dots & Skinny Puppy’s cEvin Key. They’re sort of a post-punk/industrial/ambient hybrid with strong experimental leanings. The music is great. And live they really delivered on the 40-year-old dream. The music was lush, powerful, engaging. 2/

Every once in a while I’ll see shows and it’ll hit me that I’m watching LEGENDS of the scene. This was one of those times, and the grandeur of the moment was almost overwhelming. Everyone who’s caught this tour has felt it. It’s been amazing. 3/

They say don’t meet your idols but that’s bullshit. I got to chat with Skinny Puppy’s cEvin Key after the Tear Garden show (his side project w/ Legendary Pink Dots) & it was fantastic. He signed an old SP backstage pass & I got a pic with him and the band. 🧵1/ #IndustrialMusic #ElectronicMusic #Goth

cEvin Key’s music has had such a profound influence on my own development as a musician. You can’t really hear Puppy in Negative Agent, but it’s 100% in the DNA. It was really exciting to finally meet the man. And he turned out to be a pretty rad dude. 🧵 2/2

I’m installing a patchbay and I’ll be running my pedals through it. That means a LOT of short interconnect cables with one right angle plug. Looking forward to making my studio just a bit more flexible. #MusicProduction #ElectronicMusic #IndustrialMusic #HomeStudio

A challenge! If you're reading this, post about something cool that your friends have made. I'll start. This album comes out this Friday - three singles are available now. One of the best melodeath albums in recent memory. All by very lovely people. wraithstorm.bandcamp.com/album/revenant

Giving a shout to my buddy Brian from @negativeagent.bsky.social He created a super cool album chock full of excellent songs. Opened my eyes to industrial. You can get it on tape and CD too! negativeagent.ampwall.com/album/termin... negativeagent.bandcamp.com/album/termin...

Shooting an interview near Syracuse & decided to check out The Sound Garden record store. Great selection, nice staff, fair prices. Scored some gems, all 1st pressings & complete with sleeves, posters, etc. Also got a nice copy of #Neuromancer. #RecordCollecting #IndustrialMusic #WaxTrax #Metal

🐈‍⬛ “Hey, I’m gonna jump onto your lap.” Me: “That’s cool, c’mon up!” 🐈‍⬛ “Gonna climb up to your shoulder now, ‘kay?” Me: “Um…” 🐈‍⬛ “Like I’m climbin’ a tree!” Me: 🫤 🐈‍⬛ “Gonna use my claws!” And that’s exactly how #industrialmusic gets made! #MusicProduction #ElectronicMusic #IndustrialMetal #Metal

Got the Covid and flu vaccines earlier in the day & while I’m a little run down and achy, it beats last year when I felt like I spent 16 hours in the ring with Andre the Giant. (He won.) So that’s nice. Anyway, vax life, yo. 💉🤘

I’ve been thinking about the gated pads thing (scroll down to read about it) and now I’m curious: What’s your favorite studio trick? I’m using the words “favorite,” “studio,” and “trick” broadly, interpret however you’d like. Teach me! #MusicProduction #HomeStudio #ElectronicMusic #Recording
