The latest chapter of Roses Under Glass, Interlude Benthos, is available now for public consumption! And I do mean consumption... In this shorter installment, we take a voyeuristic detour from the main cast for a cyborg orgy full of intrigue and the universal language of cannibalism. bit.ly/4rcnjaX

Uchikoshi's comments about AI here have me thinking a lot about the Star Wars prequels, "directing in the edit," and ostensibly creative people working in collaborative mediums. Basically, I'm starting to think the *promise* of AI appeals primarily to pathological conflict avoidance.

John Michonski@john.gamesline.net

Reading this Famitsu interview Uchikoshi did and it seems that the reason the Crash Keys game was canceled was because *Uchikoshi* wanted to use AI, not the publisher. This snippet is driving me nuts. Makes all the posturing with Hundred Line read extremely shallow.

To bring this full circle, I think AI appeals to that kind of awkward, conflict avoidant personality. The person who knows they want SOMETHING, but fears the back and forth--being told no or "fighting" for it. The same avoidance that makes someone hate calling the pharmacy or telling someone off.

From there, it's pretty obvious that people spec into one of a few categories: 1. The hyperfixated trans girl programmer, writer, artist, and musician who makes some insane, esoteric, UNIQUE queer furry platformer by herself, or... 2. The petty tyrant who expects to be obeyed and agreed with.

I personally believe that conflict (e.g. disagreement, compromise, standing up for your decisions, and letting others be right) is, uh, essential for any kind of collaborative work. But I think the glut of stories about bad, indecisive leadership at game studios has shown a lot of people DON'T.

Gaming specifically tends to attract awkward, autistic folk with a vague vision for things they want to see executed. But "vision" is usually less important than "decisionmaking," and often the best decision is letting a specialist make a call (or getting their options and making the call FOR them).

That's where the infamous Geonosis factory scene came from in Attack of the Clones. It was added WAY late in production, after everything was scripted and shot, almost entirely as George's brainchild. At the time, CGI was THE thing you could just "plug in" whenever. See also: the Special Editions.

Of course, good animation still requires teams of skilled professionals. It requires artists. It requires people with their own opinions, who know how to do something better than you, because THAT'S THEIR SPECIALTY. If you disagree with them, it will generate conflict, and lots of people HATE that.

John Michonski@john.gamesline.net

A reason I've seen cited for why the Star Wars prequels are "like that" is George Lucas is just an awkward, likely autistic dude who doesn't enjoy talking to actors much to get them into a rhythm with their characters. Instead, he "directs in the edit," where he has full, compromise-free control.

Swapping back and forth all weekend between Dragon's Dogma 2 and Pathologic 2 is probably doing some very fun things to my brain.

Curing ADHD forever by learning the virtues of walking between important locations very slowly and forcing myself to not use resources to make the process easier or faster or more enjoyable.

I've been getting a very incredible glut of Roses Under Glass art lately and I *really* need to start sharing it soon.

Tim Sweeney is the most divorced man in video games, but instead of an ex-wife it's about companies that are more competently evil than his.

Really interested in Dragon's Dogma 1 and 2 as a timelapse of gaming culture. The first game, and a good bit of forum discussion about it, is chock full of "sexy lady" pawns in skimpy outfits as bait to be summoned for bonus Rift Crystals. The sequel is full of wet, nasty grunglers and BBW Kratos.

I think there are many factors in this. Not the least of which is that higher graphical fidelity and customization leads to an increasingly deep uncanny valley, meaning you can make some real silly freaks. But I also suspect Monster Factory (coming from a similar place) cast a very long shadow.

Finally made the best decision to improve my creative output I've enacted in years: unsubscribing from all the MTG Arena YouTubers I watch for background noise, so they don't trick me into playing Magic again.

This is another one that I got to beta read. All I can say is that I really NEED Kallie to write more medieval fantasy, because the prose absolutely sings here. All in service of some absolutely insanely hot mindbreak sex.

Uncaged [Patreon} This is a story about what it's like to be a trans lesbian domme who actually has all the awful, predatory, violent desires cis people accuse us of. About how much of a mindfuck nightmare that is... and about how it's really, really fucking hot www.patreon.com/Kallie/posts...

Wasn't loving the intro to this new story, so I went back to make the protagonist much dirtier, more pathetic, violent, and womanizing. Now THAT'S a lesbian.

That Kotaro Uchikoshij post reads REAL fishy to me and I think people taking a more sympathetic interpretation on it are falling for intentionally wishy-washy language that's trying to cover up something probably really fucking stupid.

You can really tell that games journalism has been gutted, because one of the biggest games of the year, published by Nintendo, tells you within the first 10 minutes that the protagonist canonically has a girlcock and nobody is talking about this.

If I hadn't changed careers, you can bet your ass I would have written something about this on day one.

My girlfriends are trying to encourage me to learn animation. They're supposed to encourage me NOT to start new projects without finishing the ones I've already started, not the other way around. I'm perfectly fine at not finishing projects on my own!!

Okay, I take it back. The performances in the game in particular really do elevate it to horror, especially as you and the characters start to figure out what's going on. What a game.

Nerium Lorese@neriumlorese.bsky.social

Playing through The Incident at Galley House right now, which, while not presented as "horror" exactly, has maybe one of the most conceptually horrific plots I've ever seen in a game.

It's also just one of the very best "deduction games" I've played in a good long while. Between this, The Roottrees Are Dead (this studio's other game), the Golden Idol games, and Strange Horticulture/Antiquities, we truly are living in a golden age of Return of the Obra Dinn-likes.

Having finally watched most of Satoshi Kin's films, I'm discovering they are just hard-wired to make me emotional. Like, there will be a random sight gag and it just reaches inside me and makes me remember I still feel things.

Wound up rewriting the intro to the detective story and I'm feeling a MUCH better about the rhythm to it. Right now it's a bit like "What if Disco Elysium was about absolutely depraved bad end yuri gaslighting and surreptitious brainwashing?"

It’s probably not good for your mental health to invent people in your head to be mad at.

To be clear: I'm talking about depraved smut here. A hypno-horny detective story with a villain I describe as "a cross between Hannibal Lecter and Balalaika from Black Lagoon" in my outline.

Nerium Lorese@neriumlorese.bsky.social

I am desperate to get back to writing some dark fantasy soon, but I fear I might actually be really cooking with this newest story idea about a detective now. Shit. Fuck.

I'm making myself incredibly horny with this outline, which is always how I can tell I might have a real potential banger on my hands.
