I had the privilege of being responsible for the design of the antenna gimbal for America's latest astronomical instrument, the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope which successfully launched today. Here is a few views of the antenna that is attached to my gimbal and an image of the gimbal.

This is a neat page, you can spin the spacecraft around and examine all the details. I should note that the image of the gimbal I uploaded is shown with a standard bracket that is used for the two actuators on typical communication satellite applications. NASA made their own bracket.

I have received confirmation from NASA that the high gain antenna has successfully deployed and the antenna gimbal has been commanded to track ground stations. Everything is nominal!

Nancy Roman was an US astronomer who made important contributions to stellar classification and stellar motions. The first female executive at NASA, Roman served as NASA's first chief of astronomy throughout the 1960s and 1970s, she is one of the "visionary founders of the US civilian space program"
