Screenwriting pro tip: Final Draft users, looking to gain at least a few pages back on your drafts? FD adds an additional unneeded line between scenes. To fix: Go to /Format /Elements /Scene Heading /Paragraph And change “space before” from 2 to 1. That’s it! Your 120 page script is now 115. :)

I woke up at 4:15 am to news that an old horror script of mine might be coming back to life. I also had a cool idea for a new contained thriller. I guess I’m up for the day now.

I’m writing a pilot for XXXX. And while watching THE DIPLOMAT, my wife turns to me and says, “You need to have good scenes like this.” This is AFTER she read the outline.

I’ve been on a lot of panels where people ask do you have any tricks to writing a good script? Uh, eat a lot of candy while you write? (Yes yes I have an outline due… don’t judge.)

I just got commenced on the most condensed pilot deliverable schedule of my career. That said, beats a two year development cycle. I’ll know my fate before Christmas.

I finally signed the CoA for a new project today and my feature went wide. I haven’t had that happen for years. Fingers crossed we get a bite.

On ALONE, they dump 10 contestants into the arctic with bears and wolves and no place to sleep or easily obtainable food for a chance to win $500k. On the new WONKA reality show, they get put into a candy factory for a whopping $3 mill. There’s a metaphor here somewhere.

On this week’s SCREAMING INTO THE HOLLYWOOD ABYSS, we have best selling novelist (and so many other things!) John Green on our podcast. Yet even somebody as successful as him has found time to fail. Take a listen to find out how. hollywoodabyss.com/green

All Marcos asked to leave Hawai‘i as Hurricane Polo aims straight for the remote island chain. (More seriously, I can’t believe we’re all about to go through this again.)

Very niche TV writing question: For all the writers who don’t use Courier for studio/network level outlines, what font do you use?

Big network pitch tomorrow. The last for a while. Which is good as I’m all pitched out. But I really love this project. An original idea set in Hawaii. Fingers crossed that I can relay my passion to the execs on the zoom.

I just finished my first short story in years, a high-concept sci-fi love story titled EARTH DAY ZERO. It’s roughly 8000 words long. I don’t know if it’s any good. But I do know that I loved writing something just for myself. I should do it more often.

In that Halcyon period after selling something but before I’ve actually turned anything in and thereby starting the process of being beaten to death by my own dreams, ambition and imagination.

I’m really excited. I’ve been working on all these TV pitches for like 4 mos. But I’ve been sitting on a big idea for a movie I’ve really wanted to write. I’m finally caught up with all my work (for a couple weeks anyway) and can open a new screenplay file. Uncharted waters of the mind, here we go!
