As someone who changed schools because of how differently I was treated once I became a father, this weeks TBFM was a really great listen to me. And yes you can be both (if your school let's you)
New episode! Are lesson objectives a waste of time? Can you be a good dad and a good teacher? How should we go over assessments? Should we use phone quizzing apps in lessons? Tune in and please share if you can 🙏🙏 open.spotify.com/episode/3pRE...
I with @amymayforrester.bsky.social on this one. In terms of music taste and in terms of social skills open.spotify.com/episode/01Aq...
@adamboxereducation.bsky.social I might have found a flaw in your behaviour analogy
@studymaths.bsky.social has been recommended by Mr. P and I feel like he has opened a gate a lot of maths teachers were keeping
For those invested, these students also get to arrive 5 minutes late and leave 10 minutes early. So 25% of the class miss 25% of each lesson and do no homework to make up for it
Help! I set my year 7 class of 24 their first homework and I was doing so one of the LSAs put her hand up and told me 6 of these are not required to complete homework as part of their IEPs. How do you facilitate that? Like why should the others do their homework when 25% get a free pass?
Ive made such a conscious effort this week to do this 100% of the time and my god this is the most small change big impact thing I have ever done
Lots of behaviour advice is bad. FLMOP isn't. It's a concrete and tangible strategy that any teacher can use to improve behaviour in their classrooms. Read and share 🙏🙏🙏 carouselteachlearnlead.substack.com/p/flmop
This was not in the @adamboxereducation.bsky.social @carousel-learning.bsky.social homework webinar... might have to email the podcast
The behaviour policies that work are the ones that start off strong to begin with. It might feel morally unjust at times but if leaders are sitting in that uncomfortable position it means they are not making exceptions which will eventually make the system flawed www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
The difficult second album. I wanted to write something about how I feel like teachers expectations have made me think "well I wouldn't have done that when I was at school"
Worked at a school where a member of staff had a 0.6 contract over 5 days a week. She didnt teach first or last period so she could do the school run. Do not understand why more schools don't accommodate childcare for members of staff, especially if they're very good
Many women leave teaching shortly after returning from maternity leave. Teacher Evelyn Waite asks what is pushing them out, and how new mums and their schools can sidestep the common pitfalls of coming back to work
Took the substack plunge. Middle leadership is something that can be done in solitude, thankfully that wasn't the case for me! I just wanted to write a piece for future HoDs of all the things that helped my during my first year in post (you all get a shout out too you lovely lot)
@adamboxereducation.bsky.social putting a great post on Twitter about building relationships and behaviour. One thing that always gets neglected is that building relationships is a two way street. You (teacher) can't form a relationship with someone (pupil) if they dont want to form one with you
Before we get too ahead of ourselves here wasn't it shown that no initiatives aimed directly at improving attendance actually improved attendance? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
