People used to recognize me because they had seen one of my 7,000+ Stack Overflow "free" answers when they got stuck on a tricky CSS issue. Now, you will thank your favorite LLM for giving you that bad/outdated/inaccurate answer. And some people pay for that.

More and more people I deeply respect and have learned a lot from over the years feel like they are speaking into a void, to the point where they are losing motivation to continue making content, which got me to write my first post on my site in over a year... www.kevinpowell.co/article/tell...

Classic traveling with DB. Train got cancelled. So: major reroute. ~30min after that new train left the station, it stopped between stations: issues with the tracks. Notification: delay 112min. Now thistrain is taking a detour *via the station I came from.* Can’t make that shit up.

According to this new plan, we will now have a delay of merely 75minutes. Which almost twice the time it would’ve taken me by car to where I am right now. After 4.5h of trävelling wis deutsche bahn. 😂

It’s funny how Discord seems to have some kind of heuristics for when to install updates. Opened it this morning: No updates. Opened it just now, on a train: TIME FOR UPDATES!

There it is! Finally, a real solution for how to style all of the HTML form controls using your own custom CSS to change anything — building on an interoperable UA set of defaults. First, styling the in-page part of controls + the popover for <select>. (Later we’ll do popovers for more things.)

✨Heads up! Observables are shipping natively to a browser near you soon! Huge thank you and congrats to @domfarolino.com ❤️ I've helped / worked on / watched this through different standards bodies for more than 10 years now. ☠️ (I'm going to have a lot of work now to adapt RxJS to this 😅)

Remember Unhinged? One of my goals is to keep it as visually minimalistic as possible while still staying true to its name. It's not supposed to feel like a run-of-the-mill app without character. Instead, I want it to feel slightly weird while still being easy to understand. (Thread) #BuildInPublic

I think in CSS the BEM approach is very similar to OOP; while Utility First is closer to FP. So when people haven't been exposed to FP much or have a hard time with it, I found they tend to struggle more with Tailwind and how to create useful custom utilities, variants or components.

Understanding the purpose and usefulness of contexts in Phoenix took me a while, but over time they became a natural way of doing things for me in general - not just in phoenix/elixir. Elixir idioms are leaking into every other language I write, and so far it was *always* for the better.

Frontend Devs, since forever: “Accessibility is important, it’s not just about blind people - everyone benefits!” Silicon-Valley Bro, pre-ai: “lmao, nah. <div><div onclick=”…”>go to homepage</div></div> lgtm ship it!” Silicon-valley-bro, post-ai: “Make websites accessible for AI agents!!!”

I really love my curved ultrawide display. However, in the last few months, I often really would like to have more vertical space. Especially with dev-tools open. I guess, now I finally understand those 3:2 aspect-ratio displays that seem to pop up more often.

Starting the new year with the heaviest cold I had in years. 🤒 Time to make use of my gitnation multipass and watch a bunch of talks in my queue - and then finish the last season of Shippuden.

No typing feedback should be the default for all real-time messaging apps, together with buffering messages if the user presses Enter but keeps typing. It would encourage healthier exchanges by avoiding quick reactions to incomplete ideas.

I disabled showing who's typing in Slack about a week ago and it's been a game-changer! 💥 Previously, I'd see someone typing, and my inclination would be to stick around and stay engaged. Now I'm way less distracted and get through messages so much faster. Highly recommend trying it.

Friends, a new and improved version of my little mood-tracking app, UNHINGED, is now available on the App Store. I’ve been using it for most of the year and can’t recommend it enough—it fits my needs perfectly. apps.apple.com/us/app/unhin...

Unsolicited design tip: When in doubt, use fewer shadows, fewer gradients, and fewer decorations.

Bought a 3D printer a while ago when I encountered the gridfinity system. I’m still in the early phase and have a lot of uncluttering, clearing-out and even more printing to do, but I am already so hooked on this system.

I have a couple of these. And even if you already have deep knowledge on any of these topics, these are really great to learn how to explain them more clearly to those who don’t!

I just realised that Bluesky's custom feeds are not simply "saved searches", but algorithms via a custom service. That's... absolutely genius. Naturally, I find out about that sort of thing past 23:00, when trying to sleep. But now I have to read all about it and play around with it instead.

That feel when you submit a button to send an e-mail to ~6000 people, and seemingly nothing happens. But the browser is awaiting a response. 😬 But it all worked out fine and I added a todo to handle this in a less anxiety inducing way.

You are up to date.
