Hi I'm Marl! I make tech & sound for games, and sometimes the games themselves. Worked on games like Horripilant, To The Core, stuff for Teardown, audio for animated things like Anna-Logue. 📍~Hamburg, DE | 🏳️‍🌈 | Any pronouns, DMs always open.

Sorry the Horripilant soundtrack still isn’t out - there’s just still a few things in the pipeline before we can out it out ;D

and no this is not just about mobile games: Every game that isn’t 1. 100% offline 2. Sold physically is affected. Yes, that includes YOUR indie game!

Here are a few highlights: 1. You MUST assume your player is a minor until they go through age verification 2. You REQUIRE a PEGI/USK rating to sell your game (costs hundreds to thousands of Euros) 3. You NEED to write content disclosures about every potential minor-unfriendly thing in your game.

"I bet most of us don't even have one pony" I think every EA employee should be entitled to a pony. It would have certainly cost less than this acquisition…

NEW: I spoke with multiple current EA workers who said many inside the company have become trapped in a 'state of cynicism' after the publisher was bought by an investor group led by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund. Feelings of shame and uncertainty are the new normal, but where can they turn?

I don’t normally get involved in these kinds of discussions but this framing feels fundamentally broken. A tool facilities one doing something, it does not do something by itself. A hammer facilitates one putting a nail into an object. It does not by itself put the nail into an object.

I don't find the "AI tools train you to rely on them" thing very compelling, like yeah, that's how good tools work. It sucks when someone takes away your phillips screwdriver or your autocomplete IDE or google search for APIs. What you're saying when you say it is actually "It's a good tool."

If you commission an artist to draw something, that artist is not a tool. They are a worker. They do not facilitate you doing the work, they just do the work. AI does not facilitate one doing a task. It just does the task. It’s a worker.

Notably, the difference between tools and workers is also that you can generally accomplish a task without a given tool given the resources: you can put a nail into an object without a hammer, it’s just harder. However, if you yourself are not an artist, you cannot create artwork without the artist.

Mobygames after 4 months have finally added credits for Horripilant... And proceeded to approve the credits submitted for an outdated version of the game, despite newer ones having been submitted. And they don't let dispute the rejection of the newer ones either. Anyone know how to get that fixed?

Folks, I've been playing this on and off today, and I've got to tell you, it's probably my new favorite incremental game. The horror vibes, the music, the sound design? Sublime. Can't wait to put some more hours into it.

DAILY DEAL - Horripilant is currently 30% off on Steam! Grab it while you can! #gamedev #indiegame #godotengine #indiegamedev

Thoughts on the new Warframe update: Gameplay decent, new Waframe interesting, the new tiles look amazing and play good… … but the quest wasn‘t very good. The writing in particular felt very disjointed and characters sounded very different than they did before (esp. Hunhow) in terms of VO direction

It felt like a bunch of disconnected "wouldn't it be cool if…" moments loosely connected but not ever consequential for each other. A lot of the concepts here are neat but do not work together, and the pacing towards the end was completely off; I never knew what was going on.

This feels like kind of a more and more often repeating issue in recent times where more emphasis is put on making more content faster, but the content feels more like a series of cool ideas rather than a concept with depth and maturity. I hope DE manage to revise their process a bit…

Finding out that Neumann (of microphone fame) belongs to Sennheiser and that their microphones are developed and built in the same factory feels like uncovering the world‘s nerdiest conspiracy theory

Man if only we knew who was responsible for making the errors obscure and poorly documented, if only something could be done about that, if we just knew who was responsible-

Our game is coming to console! Also, soundtrack news soon-ish? 👀

Every time someone on YouTube uses FPS to measure performance instead of milisecond frametime I die a little bit inside. Mostly people who don‘t normally do perf-related stuff tend to do this a lot, but especially when measuring in the hundreds of FPS it‘s practically useless :(

Some quick Houdini practice since I haven't used it in years, featuring a bit of crude sound design as well :D

Hardware-accelerated Raytracing is an immensely useful and powerful hardware feature whose introduction into the public eye was entirely botched.

What's something that experts/practitioners in your field universally agree upon, but that remains a "hot take" among the general public?

I don‘t disagree with the core thesis here - the "Man up" argument is terrible and GenAI in games generally sucks, but a LOT of people are missing that Ex- in the headline. The person who said this does not currently work for Blizzard. Pretending Blizzard is saying this feels disingenuous.

Gwen C. Katz@gwenckatz.bsky.social

It's so funny to me when an entertainment company says "Man up." "Man up and accept shitty art!" "Man up and pay $100 for a game!" I...don't have to? www.pcgamer.com/games/action...

Not because I don‘t expect Blizzard to have a different stance than this guy, but putting words into people‘s mouth is just principally bad I would say.

I know everyone is posting those DLSS face comparisons around, and that is of course a huge affair, but what gets me so much about DLSS 5 is how changes the lighting of every scene into this slightly overcast thing. Like it looks like they just slapped a skylight on, all directionality is just gone

DLSS 5 in AC Shadows almost makes the rooftops here look they are snowy. Also what's up with the glowing debris pile there :O

It feels like so many people enjoy difficult games so much these days that I almost feel crazy for wanting games that challenge me just enough to not be boring, but not too much to be frustrating
