If you want to read an analysis about the 2026 elections in Sweden and the intricate dynamics between radical right populism and mainstream, you may find my interview at the link herein.

#val2026 #val26 #Svpol #Swedenelects w/h votes from 2325/6626 polling stations counted it looks more like a nail biting evening. The difference between the red-greens vs Tidö is just 1 (one) mandate for the former.

#val2026 #val26 #Svpol exit poll by #TV4 suggest a slightly different order & values but they also suggest governmental change w/h #rödgröna at 51.3% whilst #Tidö so-called blueyellow at 47%

This means that #socialdemokraterna #SAP maintain their lead at 28.4% & their allies make it to 51,3% & entails a government change while #moderaterna #M hold onto second place with 18.1% 2/x

I started my #ECPR GC 2026 w/h a presentation & discussion already at the first conference panel at 09.00. Today I plan to take it more easily & try to meet old friends & make new ones. Krakow is lovely & weather is still summerly.

This picture conveys in its own way (though I find it uncomfortably over-focused on women) what we actually witnessed to in these past weeks. Not my picture, seen it in my feed across several accounts, happy to credit correctly.

For (yet another) careful documenting of these awful things going on ”over there”. Mind you over there are people, hopes and dreams of a normal life just like in the comfort of ”over here”.

For those in Germany and elsewhere in Europe who are unaware that the russians are at war with Europe, Moldova's independent TV station,TV8, has updated its map showing where missiles and drones have fallen in the country since russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. www.instagram.com/p/DWBk2RkjMQG/

Important to remember the bigger picture in present context. It would be worth keeping in mind both who instigated it (& who gains from it) as well as who tries to spin it (& to what end).

After a tortuous itinerary I made it to Newcastle. I’m looking forward to several days of vigorous & generous discussions on issues of gender & politics together w/h 750 other scholars at ECPG 2026.

As typical academic, I show to people I admire them by inviting to brainstorm together a funding application. We didn’t talk abt. low acceptance rate; rather allowed ourselves to think theoretical interactions btw. inter-imperiality, knowledge regimes & resistances. Hopefully Södertörn is a charm🤞🏼

The inaugural symposium for KAW-project Conjunctures of struggles brought together researchers interested in gender & sexuality in contemporary context of democracy contestation. Two intense days filled w/h critical analysis & minute observation on these pressing issues.

The sausage party of all sausage parties. It’s so infuriatingly disappointing to see that we are reverting back to this. All I can remember is that old adage: if you are not at the table, then you are on the menu.

To be clear, I am not saying ousted Bolojan cabinet was in any way a good thing (I forgot to add 4th coalition partner UDMR/RMDSZ also known as FIDESZ-branch in 🇷🇴), but PSD allying w/h pro-🇷🇺 AUR w/h ambition to form that ”stable pro-European government” is grotesque.

Yes, in the spur of the moment, I had decided I’ll be squeezing fresh pomegranate juice and mixing it with orange juice. But then I had all that orange pulp. Would have been a pity to just throw away. 3/

I started the morning by absent-mindedly dropping a pomegranate on the ground and rushing to pick it up as it rolled over into the street (of course, a bus was approaching). It had cracked open so I bought it, and then bought another. And 3 oranges, for good measure. 2/

W/h almost all votes counted (98,9%) the results of 2026 elections in Hungary 🇭🇺 confirm a legislative w/h a limited number of parties (3!), & a seriously rightward over-representstion. Tisza gets lion’s share 138 MPs (of 199 in total), Fidesz + Kdnp 55 MPs while Mi Hazánk hangs onto 6 MPs.

The official numbers w/h not yet half of the votes counted show only 3 parties in future parliament (Tisza, Fidesz + Kdnp & Mi Hazánk), all on the right of centre & further to the far right in 🇭🇺 #Hungary #elections

W/h over 70% votes counted the situation seems little changed w/h still only those 3 parties in future parliament. Fidesz + Kdnp appear to decrease still, whilst Mi Hazánk holds onto their seats. Tisza continues to grow beyond 130 seats out of 199

So it seems these elections have really mobilized 🇭🇺 electorate. The numbers are much higher than in previous elections w/h urban centers leading.

😮🇭🇺🗳️ THIS IS MASSIVE. Hungary’s parliamentary election turnout hit 74.23% by 5pm (62.92% at this point in 2022; final: 70.21%). Opposition stronghold Budapest is at 77.18%, big cities 75.55%. Final turnout is set to exceed 80% – unprecedented. Polls close at 7pm CET.

Citizens in 🇭🇺 are mobilizing to vote in higher numbers than ever before. These elections are momentous to say the least.

Szabolcs Panyi@szabolcspanyi.bsky.social

💥🇭🇺🗳️ WOW! 54.14% turnout by 1pm in Hungary’s historic election (vs 40.01% in 2022), where voters could end Viktor Orbán’s 16-year rule. Massive participation, in line with independent pollsters’ predictions – who also predicted a massive opposition win. Polls close at 7pm.

This is a lucid analysis of the present context, though I for one disagree with the concept of “toxic masculinity” since it’s focusing individuals rather than the system. “The suppression of gender studies is not only an attempt to suppress a critical analytical tool, but also knowledge itself.“

Mid-January weather in southern Sweden is a mix of cold, humid & miserable. To escape it I’m heading to Gothenburg for much awaited FUDEM workshop on ”Envisioning (Un)democratic futures”. Not sure abt. better weather but I count on warm & enlightening intellectual conversations

& to my utter surprise, Göteborg is actually sunny 🌞 ! Did I move to the wrong side of Sweden, or is this just a PR trick to lure people to this beautiful city? (obs cheesy picture taken downtown from the tram)
