At least half of CFPB's exams of financial firms this year went through "expedited review" because examiners identified at most only minor violations. But does anybody actually think all the firms were judiciously following the law? www.reuters.com/world/us-con...

“But the agency's new political leadership had made it clear via policy changes and other communications that thorough scrutiny was unwelcome and that examiners' jobs were at risk” www.reuters.com/world/us-con...
Least surprising breaking news ever: Supervision of financial firms by Trump's CFPB is a complete sham. (And it'll be everyday consumers who pay the price)
"In the big picture, the move is part of a trend of the administration taking a friendlier approach with businesses — even at the federal agency tasked with guarding consumers from unfair and deceptive practices."
"As the CFPB turns away from its watchdog role, it’s making it harder for all of us to watch as well."

NEW: Debt collection. Credit reporting. Payday loans. Consumer complaints to a federal database used to help reveal issues and bring accountability. Then the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau stopped publishing the narratives.
We all knew that Trump's efforts to destroy the CFPB and other vital public services was never about cutting waste and saving taxpayer money.
In the past, the CFPB's goal would've been identifying the root cause and preventing future harm to consumers. Instead Vought just provided air cover to Bilt without directing real fixes or systematic changes.
The CFPB used to be a watchdog. But under Trump and Vought, it's more like the financial industry's golden retriever.
Shocking nobody: "an ask-nicely strategy to consumer protection isn’t likely to protect consumers." www.propublica.org/article/bilt...
We won't be intimidated by this administration ✊️ #SolidarityForever
Trump and Mark Paoletta's CFPB just put one of our most active and visible members on administrative leave for undisclosed reasons. He recently spoke out about the CFPB's illegal and chaotic office relocation. Coincidence? nteu335.org/2026/08/11/c...
Sadly this is not the first time nor likely the last that the Trump administration has targeted a union leader. But we won't let them push us around. phttps://nteu335.org/2026/08/11/cfpb-workers-denounce-mark-paolettas-sham-investigation-of-cfpb-union-leader/
BREAKING: Trump and Mark Paoletta’s CFPB has launched a sham investigation into one of our union leaders. If they thought this would silence and intimidate us, they badly miscalculated. #SolidarityForever
"By the time some CFPB staff arrived to begin working on the first three floors of that building, there were not enough desks for all the employees at the agency. And the floors they were assigned to work from did not have functional Wi-Fi."
Something tell us they don't actually want us to do our jobs protecting consumers and holding financial scammers and fraudsters accountable.
It's always hard to tell the difference between malevolence and incompetence with this administration. In this case, it's probably a bit of both. 🙃
"It reinforces the fact that the companies the CFPB oversees have a direct line of communication to the political leadership and that they will not hesitate to circumvent the supervisory process." Corruption plain and simple.
"This message will be read by many at the CFPB as a clear threat that if they ask a question the institution doesn't like, their jobs may be on the line."
Chaos is the point when you don't want government to deliver for everyday Americans.
Q of the day: Will Brian Johnson continue Vought’s dismantling of the CFPB via illegal layoffs, forced relocations, denying compensation, violating union contracts, etc? Or will he stop attacking our workers and let us get back to protecting Americans?
Update: Our sister Helen has undergone her procedure and is now recovering from brain surgery. After Vought cut benefits, she needs money for expenses, and needs YOUR help. Helen's kids rely on her every day. Can she rely on you? gofund.me/2350f7f63. Adjust the “tip” to 0% and see the disclaimer.
Trump and Vought have decided you can afford life just fine, so they shut us down. #savecfpb #stopvought
“We’re the agency that polices [financial companies] and makes sure they follow the law and don’t rip consumers off, so they don’t like us around." www.ms.now/news/cfpb-vo...
@sylviagarcia.house.gov asked the question of the day at today’s HFSC hearing on the CFPB. Russ Vought doesn’t want space for all of our workers. He wants to fire most of us and cripple the agency. He wants fewer people protecting Americans from scammy corporations. #stopvought #savecfpb
Thank you for the shoutout at today's hearing, @repmaxinewaters.bsky.social. We will keep fighting for consumers and our rights. We will show up at every opportunity to hold to account Vought or anyone else who tries to illegally destroy or degrade CFPB. #stopvought #savecfpb
This week Congress will have its first opportunity to question Russ Vought in person about the his destruction and corruption of the CFPB.

“If the company can simply turn, go behind the scenes and take a shortcut and undo years of work simply because they know the right people or have whispered in the right ears, it's incredibly corrosive to the ability of the government to pursue public justice."
“We’ve been fighting to keep this agency open so we can protect American consumers since February 2025,” Doug Wilson, an enforcement attorney who has worked at the CFPB for almost a decade, told Bloomberg Law. “We’re still fighting.”
Vought's forced relocation of CFPB workers to a DC office is illegal but it's not going to keep us down. Appreciate the solidarity and love from our fellow federal workers and union members with @fedworkersunited.bsky.social! The fight continues! ✊️
