The timeline holds about 300 entries, roughly 280 of them live hardware sets. It runs from his birth in 1980 and the approximate founding of the 8bitpeoples label in 1999 through early sets in New York, including Blip at FUN in 2001, and on to this month's club nights in Malmรถ, Gothenburg and Stockholm and an Outtaspec! set at Brick Box in Tucson, Ariz. About 165 entries open into photo galleries. The last entry is his own death, listed for 2057 with the note "significant variance expected" and the location unknown. The announcement promises "branching timelines ahead," and Johnson says more material will arrive as he recovers it from a stack of old hard drives dating to his teens. He is asking anyone holding photos, video, audio recordings or other relics from his shows to get in touch. Johnson co-founded 8bitpeoples, the New York chipmusic label he still directs, and the label helped curate Blip Festival from 2006 to 2012. The fact that laamaa, an incredible artist, developer, and member of the chiptune community, was bullied into leaving this platform and removing Risa is incredibly disappointing.

It is entirely reasonable to have major ethical problems with AI/ML, my guess is these concerns are nearly universal within our community! But making solo indie devs, who are longstanding members of this scene, the targets of ire is absolutely wild to me.

There has been a sudden proliferation of vibe-coded slop trackers, but this ain't it, it's someone who knows the craft using new tools.
