New England is not exactly a hotbed of Thai cruise haha. Fried race is a safer fallback dish, these places don’t do the volume required to justify high-quality noodles. Some of these little mom and pop joints seem to have forgotten what Thai food tastes like. Oh well.

This mayor makes we want to move back to NYC

Nothing and no one should stand between New Yorkers and their right to vote — least of all the government.
Early voting is happening now through November 1. Election Day is November 3. See you at the polls!

Do average people understand how much money a million million dollars is? $500M out of $1T is 0.05%, or 1 in 2,000. It’s like an average household spending $100. Except the average household would notice the expense. It’s imperceptible when you basically have unlimited funds.

So, funny thing, I shared this old (but still funny to me) expression and some troll dusted themselves off and took the time to insult me. They’d seen it before, apparently.

My dude, it says right there “someone said” because I’m repeating something I found amusing. Just because you’ve seen a joke before doesn't mean someone else won’t enjoy it.

in Dogs of War, the purpose of engineering killer cyborg animals was not because they were big and scary and effective, but because they could be disavowed after you used them to commit war crimes. Bad dog, have it destroyed, and the humans are left with clean hands.

I wrote a post sharing a bit more about Whio, my new ebook reader, and why I decided to build it after years of writing technical books. I also talk about some of the features, accessibility work, and how iPhone Duo inspired the app: nilcoalescing.com/blog/Introdu... #iOSDev #IndieDev #ebooks

Linguistic theory suggests the earliest, most commmon words in a language are the shortest. English famously has “I” and “me”. The French word for gold is “or” and fire is “fir”

Conversely, the French word for “today” is aujourd’hui and “daily” is quotidiennement. Which implies they are sophisticated terms only adopted much later.

Visiting my aunt in her 80’s, we rotated some passwords. We’d already migrated her years ago from a paper list to Apple’s Passwords app. I’m still hesitant to use passkeys for myself, but I absolutely think they’re a good idea for her. (1/2)

We’ll skip two-factor auth and jump straight to the phishing-resistant passkeys. Everyone’s getting phishing emails all the time, they are sneaky and relentless. Vendor lock-in not an issue for elderly relatives, let’s keep them safe. (2/2)

Longer runs (ultras, trail runs) often have snack breaks for real, actual food because even the finest gels like Huma get disgusting after a few hours of nothing but.

I used to take gels (100 calories) every 3-4 miles but that could take hours on the trail so I just set a “time to eat” timer every 45 minutes. Works for me.

We are, in fact, back on our bullshit. We must’ve been here a hundred Fridays at least. Tommy’s Skyline to the Sea was back on tap, it’s done really well! Different from the usual Barebottle Brew Co beers.
