I decided to run a little experiment. I've spent the last couple weeks interacting with and responding to people who claim, variously, that Israel is committing genocide, Ed Sheeran is a nazi, Zionism is fascism, Israel shouldn't exist, etc. It's been an interesting if disheartening experience.

Israel's founding was always held up as an example of colonial zionism and again, no facts could dissuade. Not the world voting to create Israel, not the Arab Israeli war, not the fact that every country on earth had more violent origin stories. Nothing.

I left certain of a couple things.. People don't know their history, the genocide propaganda compaign is incredibly successful, antizionism is usually, but not always Antisemitism and people online, with one exception, are rude, smug, nasty pieces of shit.

That person admitted they were assessing the motivation behind the actions they were seeing, underscoring the very reason the ICJ has NOT defined this as a genocide. For everyone else, pics of injured children or ruined hospitals were enough.. As tho this was the first war in which that happened.

No one was swayed by facts that distinguish this war from every other "genocide": aid shipments to Gaza, medical care for Palestinians, Palestinian population numbers, leaflets to innocent citizens to evacuate, ethnic Palestinians living in peace inside Israel by the millions... nothing.

That Israel is committing genocide is just taken as fact and no argument will change that. The rationale is typically that experts have said so. They focus on Jewish experts, with no sense that there is antisemitism in that. Only one person was willing to admit it was subjective....
