Der Name Schmitz leitet sich vom Beruf des Schmied ab. Ein Schmied konnte auch eine Katze haben. War die Katze in der Nähe des Amboss wenn ihr Herrchen auf selbigen schlug, erschreckte sie sich evtl und lief davon, so schnell sie konnte. Sie „ging ab wie Schmitz Katze“

This was before the first motor cars had appeared in Orkney. People still made their way about by foot, horse driven contraptions, and bicycle - a mode of transport which had become very popular. As is the case with today, larger horse drawn, faster vehicles, shared the road with the increasing number, but slower bicycles.

noch eine bekannte Malerin: Judith und Holofernes von Artemisia Gentileschi, * am 8. Juli 1593. Das Bild entstand in der ersten Hälfte des 17. Jh. in Florenz und gilt als eines ihrer bekanntesten Bilder. Sie war die wohl bedeutendste Malerin des Barock und über war über Jahrhunderte vergessen.
