4. If you had a complicated relationship (abuse, addiction, etc.) with your late partner, many of your issues may seem to have resolved overnight. You're not a monster if you feel like your life becomes better after their death. Complicated grief is a mindf*ck. 5/6

2. Do not pay any bills in their name until you know that you're legally responsible in your state*. If not, creditors may petition the Estate (if you go to probate) for repayment, but it won't come directly from your checking account. * Unfortunately, this isn't true in all states. 3/6

You're not immortal. If you die, your surviving children can collect your Social Security. Your spouse may be able to collect "caretaker" benefits*, giving them time to heal. The entire family may qualify for Medicaid and other discounts/benefits. #Trump #MAGA #SocialSecurity #Grief #Parenting

Many of our kids have doctor/therapy appointments during the day, and being a stay-at-home parent allows us to play chauffeur as well as support our kids by showing up for school activities. There is always a familiar face in the crowd.

At least, that's how it is today. The widow-with-school-age-kids community may be thrown onto the streets. For many of us, survivor/caretaker benefits are our grieving families only source of income. Medicaid allows us to have healthcare that's independent from employment.
