I wrote a book on Blaxploitation Cinema! Ya damn right! It's called BLACK CAESARS AND FOXY CLEOPATRAS: A HISTORY OF BLAXPLOITATION CINEMA. Available at bookstores, libraries and even an audiobook (read by moi). If you want to get a copy, ask yo' mama!

I don't give a damn who's the new 007. But the unwise plan to make more of these movies allowed me to pitch an article I've wanted to do for a while: All 007 opening credits songs, ranked! Will my list be an "All Time High" or "A View to a Kill"? Find out below: www.bostonglobe.com/2026/10/27/a...

bostonglobe.comEvery James Bond opening credits theme song, ranked - The Boston GlobeAs producers are reportedly get close to casting a new Bond, we're ranking every song, from "Goldfinger" to "GoldenEye."

I went to the closing night movie at NEWFEST yesterday, and the closing night party. The party was fun. I talked to 22 people there, asking them if they liked THE MAN I LOVE, the final movie of the fest. 20 of them did NOT like it. A few had some surprisingly harsh words. I didn't like it either.

Oh my God. What an incredible loss. I am even happier that COYOTE VS. ACME saw the light of day now. RIP.

Unbelievable loss. An amazing talent, and just a really, really good person. www.instagram.com/p/De8RFy4pyov/

If Mickey D's can use "Got Your Money," a song about prostitution, in their ad: Advil can use Khia's "My Neck, My Back" in an ad for pain relief. Draftkings can use MOP's "Ante Up" to promote gambling. Lowe's can use Whodini's "I'm a Ho" to sell garden tools. Does marketing listen to lyrics?

I'm finna start some 007-related trouble with next week's Critic's Notebook at the Globe. (rubbing hands together with evil glee). In the meantime, survey question: What's your favorite James Bond movie theme song? Here's a photo of Wet Nellie that I took at the Bond Cars exhibit in London.

I once wrote--in print so it's forever--that if you were from New Jersey and you ate at The Olive Garden, somebody should whip your ass with a whiffle bat. Guess I can never run for public office! Well, maybe just not in my beloved home state of New Jersey.

Why Odie can never run for public office. Me: The White House looks like a Cheesecake Factory. GOP: AAARRRRGGHH! Odie BE elitist! Americans love the Chee-- (Odie busts in. Gets in guy's face.) Me: Yeah, bitch, I said it! Cheesecake Factory is gaudy as hell! Your followers love fuckin' Waffle House!

After four years, I now realize that this was the perfect way to start my first day at the Globe. These guys failed to make me disappear, in case you haven't noticed. Also, this is your reminder that the Internet is forever.

4 years ago today, I became the The Boston Globe's film critic. Since I was 6, I've always wanted to write for a newspaper (though not as a film critic--I wanted to be Jimmy Breslin). Siskel & Ebert made me want to write about my first love, the movies. The Boston outlet was the surprise. (1/x)

It's not easy being a Black film critic PERIOD, but it's especially not easy in Boston. Some readers like to remind me I'm not White, and I like to remind them they're racists. I've been called the N-word by bigger, more powerful people than Red Sox fans and Marky Mark wannabes, ya bastards. (3/x)

Back in May 2022, I started freelancing for the Globe. I was still writing for Roger Ebert's site, but I'd left tech for good. My 11 years at Roger's will still be my most beloved critic job, but after 682 articles at the Globe (13 freelance, 669 fulltime), I think I've earned my place there. (2/x)

I've been The Boston Globe's film critic 4 years this month. (My anniversary is Saturday.) So to celebrate, I'll post a great layout by our team for one of my articles the next few days. This one was for the WICKED sequel WICKED: FOR GOOD. My pan of the first was, um, popular. I had no issues here.

SUDDENLY, LAST SUMMER is on TCM tonight. "Sebastian and Violet! Violet and Sebastian!" The plot of this movie makes no damn sense, and that's just the beginnnig. Here's what I wrote about this hot mess way back in...2006!

The movie "I'm In Love With A Church Girl" has the following credit. This proves that God not only makes shitty people, He also makes shitty movies. Lord, if I were you, I'd change that credit to ALAN SMITHEE.

Since MOONLIGHT's getting a re-release for its 10th anniversary, it's time to drag out this old reliable chestnut. I wonder if there's a spray I can use to de-ghettoise my own Black experience...nah, I wouldn't trade that for the world!

This Black MAGA creator says she “cannot believe the disrespect” after being removed from a San Antonio rally hosted by Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton!?!?! Why would they treat her this way???

My review runs tomorrow, but I thought KLARA AND THE SUN was just dreadful. A twee 2-hour version of the last half hour of Spielberg's A.I. directed by the guy who did JOJO RABBIT. Jenna Ortega tries hard, but someone who could do soulful and meditative needed to direct this. Amy Adams, WHY, GURL?!

It drives me crazy when someone in NYC asks me for directions, then looks at me as if I've lied to them. I said "Lady, if I wanted to mug you, I'd have gone upside your damn head already." A bit later, I saw the same woman on the train platform I HAD DIRECTED HER TO and said "SEE, I WASN'T LYING."

Listening to these White dudebro critics behind me ramble on incessantly reminds me how little I enjoy going to critic screenings here. I am sure it is worse in Boston. They're talking about how hot women are in movies. I want to hit them.

When I was a kid, my Mom always told me actions have consequences. She was right, and all these parents are feeling the consequences. Also, go to hell if you wrote any of these articles. (And I still talk to my parents because they didn't vote GOP--the part these assholes leave out.)

This is a quietly metastasizing moral panic

New DIGGER ad: Tom Cruise: (singing) DIGGA! What's my muthafuckin' name? DIGGA! And who I'm rollin' with, huh? My NI--(smash cut to DIGGER poster). Announcer: Go see DIGGER! PLEEEEEASE! I'LL GIVE YOU A DOLLAR!
