In nine days, Yolanda casts her first ballot in the first major election since the Supreme Court weakened Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. The courts closed a door. The ballot box is still open. Tonight, we join my friend, Rev. Al Sharpton, on MS NOW @ 5:30 PM ET.

Where is our humanity if Nolan Well’s death goes unanswered? Where is it if the death of 1-year-old Kohen Wiley doesn't disturb you? As I told @lzgranderson.bsky.social, we deserve justice. We deserve a system where Black lives actually matter.

latimes.comColumn: No magic words will cure the racism that festers in AmericaThe deaths of a Black teenager and a Black infant in the South remind us that "the children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe."

Rosa Parks passed away on this day in 2005. The world remembers one act of courage on a Montgomery bus, but her whole life was a fight for freedom and dignity. That fight is ours to carry forward.

People often question if one vote really matters. My answer never changes: Your ballot is how you show up for your family, your neighbors, and your future. It's how you protect the rights so many fought and died for.

Vellesiya Wiley went to Walmart for diapers and baby clothes for her 1-year-old son, Kohen. A police officer suspected her of shoplifting — so he fired shots and killed the toddler. This is beyond outrageous and tragic. Kohen’s family deserves justice and clear answers. thegrio.com/2026/10/19/k...

The Kings, the Youngs, the Vivians — didn't wait for America to give them access to the ballot. Their children aren't waiting either. Neither should you. 🗳️ Vote early gadems.info/IWillVote ☎️ Voter Hotline: 1-888-730-5816 #EVIP #EarlyVoteInPerson #gapol

I think about Selma's Freedom Day often. Yesterday in 1963, hundreds of Black residents lined up outside the Dallas County Courthouse in Selma to register to vote. They stood for hours under threat of arrest and violence, while those who tried to bring them water were arrested.

One of my favorite pictures of Mom and Dad. Historical reference: Dad was sentenced to six months of hard labor at Reidsville State Prison for having an Alabama driver’s license in Georgia after moving from Alabama

. He was freed after Robert Kennedy, on behalf of then-Presidential candidate, Senator John F. Kennedy, intervened. My mom (who is pregnant in this picture with my brother Dexter), my older sister Yolanda, and I met him upon his return.

On Yom Kippur, I join our Jewish brothers and sisters in reflection and renewal. May this sacred day remind us of our shared responsibility to seek forgiveness, pursue justice, repair what is broken, and build a more peaceful world for all. G’mar Chatima Tova.

We celebrate the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month and honor the culture of Hispanic and Latino Americans. I know freedom is indivisible; no community wins alone. Black and brown, side by side, is how we build the future we deserve. #HispanicHeritageMonth

The proof is in the work: 100% of educators in our Realize the Dream program saw real value in teaching children and teens leadership, wellness, and service learning. Invest in our young people and they will rise. #RealizeTheDream

Thank you to Rev. Al Sharpton, @officialmlk3.bsky.social, @arndreaking.bsky.social, National Action Network & Drum Major Institute for organizing an empowering rally and march to defend the vote. People in power want you to believe that you are powerless—but they're wrong. bsky.app/profile/aft....

AFT President @rweingarten.bsky.social spoke at the March on Washington last week. Weingarten encouraged AFT members and caring people from across the United States to defend the vote. Learn how to be an AFT Democracy Defender at AFTvotes.org

We are here, standing at the Lincoln Memorial, where my father shared his Dream 63 years ago today, with a coalition ready to defend the vote. This is what democracy looks like. #MarchOnWashington2026 #DefendTheVote

#OTD In 1955, 14-year-old Emmett Till was brutally murdered for allegedly whistling at a white woman. His death, the acquittal of his killers & his mother's courage in holding an open-casket funeral helped awaken the movement. We carry his memory with us to the Lincoln Memorial today.

63 years ago today, my father told the world about his dream: that his children would one day live in a nation where they would not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. Today, we march to protect that dream for our children.

Our hearts break watching the horrific flooding in Nepal and Tibet. The images and videos are devastating. When disaster strikes one community, it touches all of us. We are bound together, all tied into a single garment of destiny. We're holding the Nepali and Tibetan people in our prayers.

BREAKING: More than 550 people missing in Tibet, China's state media says, in massive flash floods that have also killed at least 162 in Nepal.

#OTD In 1966, the Chicago Freedom Movement reached an agreement with city leaders, including Mayor Richard J. Daley, to expand fair housing and open mortgage access regardless of race or neighborhood. I remember being in Chicago that summer.

Happy #WomensEqualityDay! Today we honor the trailblazers who fought for women’s rights while recognizing that equality is not a finished chapter in history. It is an ongoing commitment to justice, opportunity, and dignity for all women.

The current administration is working overtime to sow chaos and doubt in the very foundation of our democracy: free and fair elections. This cowardly decision is not the end of the story, but it does invite chaos and confusion for the 1/3 of voters who vote by mail.

npr.orgSupreme Court gives Trump an interim win on his mail voting order, but hurdles loomThe Supreme Court paused a lower court's ruling that blocked key parts of Trump's order to limit voting by mail for the midterms. But U.S. Postal Service work on the order remains blocked nationwide.
