This is shocking to hear! Einstein kept a picture of Maxwell on his office wall and admired him more than any other scientist. Every fall I teach a whole course about his work. This is like hearing that Westminster Abbey might be purchased so a new car rental place can built on Newton’s grave.
Help! Parton Community Council has 60 days to raise £70k to buy Parton Kirk (resting place of James Clerk Maxwell). They plan to turn it into a visitor centre celebrating our great hero! The other buyers could turn it into long-term storage 😬 Even £5 would help 🙏🧪⚛️ www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding...
As a counter to my previous post, this is a pretty nice story. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Just in the few minutes since I posted this, I've gotten enough responses to indicate that these mistaken claims aren't uncommon or isolated. Please keep passing them on beware@sfwa.org
I know I already posted about this...but to reiterate: Anthropic copyright settlement authors, PLEASE contact me (Writer Beware) if your publisher is making a claim on a book whose rights have reverted, or claiming anything other than a 50/50 split on an in-contract book. beware@sfwa.org

Why is there no way to complain about this bullshit on the BBC website? -Surely something Ofcom should deal with...
Yeah...Investigating a ridiculous complaint by someone who has been allowed to use the media to instigate racist riots three years in a row is not what an institution who is tasked with regulating media should do. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I was out with my pal J-Hurls this week (that's @loudribs.bsky.social street name) and he pointed out Binface doesn't need to win. We just need to normalIse everyone saying 'if Binface gets X votes Farage is DONE. So, you know. 3k feels doable. If it's 3k votes, man Farage is done...

We clearly need legaslation three years ago. Every iteration of an "AI" needs to undergo rigorous offline testing for a prolonged period of time before being allowed online. If the tech companies say that is impossible, just ban the Algorithms outright. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
