I am sad for Germany today. First significant step away from democracy was taken today, after a long time... "Wir werden uns noch in Jahrzehnten an diesen Tag heute erinnern, als die Konservativen und die Faschisten zum ersten Mal seit vielen Jahrzehnten schon wieder gemeinsame Sache gemacht haben"

Bluesky: nicer, kinder and less antagonistic to science.

Bluesky’s science takeover: 70% of Nature poll respondents use platform Roughly 6,000 readers answered the poll, with many declaring that Bluesky was nicer, kinder and less antagonistic to science than X 👏 www.nature.com/articles/d41...

The way and the speed with which the whole German politics is moving to the right is shocking. Suddenly everybody seems to have forgotten all about human rights, morals, and the dangers of the current rhetoric.

I have been listening to Oscar a lot lately. He somehow touches me especially now and can lift me up. I particularly like his Porgy and Bess album.

German government agencies are leaving the other place as it is "increasingly difficult to have a normal discussion there". I hope more institutions follow suite and move to Bluesky or another platform that's not owned by a billionaire. www.zeit.de/digital/inte...

It's incredible how we keep making the same mistakes again. Moving in the direction of the extreme right, no matter exactly how much, normalises their hateful demands. We keep talking about only their agenda. We need to stop and focus on how to build a better, open and inclusive society.

A year ago, there was a big scandal in Germany: Leaked documents showed that members of the AfD party (and others) were trying to make the idea of mass deportations more palatable by introducing the term “remigration.” A year later, in spite of widespread protests, they seem to have succeeded. 1/2

This seems like a nice list. Thanks @fmriguy.bsky.social !

Hey friends, I made my first starter pack! You can’t go wrong following these 150 fun and smart science communicators. For some reason there’s no men in there? Weird. Please don’t be mad if you’re not on there — I ran out of slots even though many are still missing 😬 go.bsky.app/JKv3BWU

You are up to date.
