Hi, all. We're trying to raise $500 to help out our unhoused neighbors who lost tents and tarps in Wednesday night's storm. We appreciate all the support from the community.

Hi! We've been on here for quite a while now, but we've never properly introduced ourselves (admin is notoriously bad at introducing themself, so not surprising). We are Omaha Autonomous Action, a mutual aid collective that has been doing our best to help out in the community for 5 years now.

Who is in charge of OAA? Nobody, and everybody. There is no boss, no board of directors, only people coming together to help meet the needs of others in the community. How can I help OAA? Well, you can donate via Venmo or Cashapp, subscribe to our Patreon, or donate goods and/or time (links in bio)

If you have any other questions, you can always reach out here, or on Instagram. Times are tough, but together we can make things just a little bit easier for each other. Thank you to everyone who has helped us be able to do this work for the past 5 years, and hopefully for many years to come. 🖤

Currently our weekly Street Kitchen is Sundays from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at Walnut Hill Park, right by the fountain. If the weather is bad we are probably in the basement of Augustana Lutheran Church, right across the street. Either way, we are out there every Sunday, rain or shine.

Common questions we are asked: Are we a church group? No. Even though Augustana generously makes their basement space available to us, we have no religious affiliation as a group. Is Street Kitchen only for unhoused people? No. Anyone can come eat or pick up supplies at Kitchen.

If you have been looking to make a material difference in the lives of your neighbors, if you have been looking for a way to be involved in something, if you have just been looking for a way to get out of the house and meet some friendly people, consider checking out OAA. DM any questions 🖤

Hard to believe we’ve been at our new location at Walnut Hill Park (and thanks to the generosity of the congregation of Augustana Lutheran Church, in the church basement when the weather isn’t ideal), for over 7 months now, but so far things have been going well.

A friend & street kitchen regular has hit a rough patch & needs help to make rent! He's an incredible organizer who has done so much for street kitchen since we moved to Walnut Hill in November, including welcoming us to the neighborhood & helping us build a strong relationship with the community.

If you are looking for a mutual aid distro to spend a weekend day with, just let us know

Mel Buer@melbuer.bsky.social

We clock in as we always do, and then when we clock out, we get back to work. We do it tired, we do it scared, we do it after we put the kids to bed and get the bills paid. We spend one weekend day at the mutual aid distro, instead of two weekend days at the bar. We have to. That's it

Our winter coat drive is back! Starting Monday November 24th running until January 5th, we're working with @legendcomicsandcoffee to collect cold weather gear for our neighbors. We're looking for clean, lightly used or new coats, gloves, hats, scarves, blankets and other cold weather supplies.

It's finally fall! It's been about a month since our last distro update, and we wanted to share what we've been up to! As always, we’ve had a busy few weeks. We had a delicious veggie stew with corn bread, pizza, chicken and rice bowls, pumpkin curry soup and tacos! As well as plenty of snacks

Three years ago, we were able to buy requests every week, and get 3 needs and 3 wants for folks. Today, we've had to scale back to a limit of two items per person every other week. Even with that change, our last several request shops have each been more than our monthly Patreon payout.

Our unhoused neighbors really need the support of all in the community, now more than ever. Show up for your unhoused neighbors, whether that be providing a meal, supplies, cash, or just a chat. Mutual aid is a great way to build community and provide tangible assistance to those who need it.

We got to share a Greek pasta salad, pizza, grilled hot dogs and some delicious Khichdi with our neighbors, as well as an array of snacks and drinks. Thanks to generous donations we had canned goods, hygiene products, and period packs to distribute, in addition to our usual request fulfillments.
