One of the smartest ideas I've seen in the last few years is instead of trying to find "the Joe Rogan of the left," buy up the news sites of defunct papers and put some money into providing local news coverage in rural areas.

The main thing people involved in the “AI PR simply missed the mark” discourse fail to discuss is the oligarchy part of the tech oligarchs. What about Silicon Valley makes you think the general public is the partner they think they need to court or whose fears they need to assuage?

AI's appeal is even more intoxicating because both the rulers and the capitalists see it as a way to extract even more from the working class without requiring their labor or expertise. Even more exhilarating is the potential to replace and cull said labor and expertise.

Our tech overlords have cozied up to Trump, who regularly makes open threats and brings violence against Americans of all walks of life with the help of their hardware and software. He grifts off their grifts. Their PR didn’t miss the mark. We’re the marks.

When an autocratic regime begins taking over a government, those with money and power focused on attaining more of each tend to see more opportunity, not less. Especially as guardrails and accountability wane early on.

They believe they can insulate themselves and simultaneously capitalize from these regimes. The consolidation of power, wealth, and resources also means the autocrats are now the sole focus group since its will is forced upon the masses.
