I just pushed out v7.0.0 of my shaders, and while I wanted to do a full on fancy trailer and a bunch of other promotion stuff - I didnt want to delay it any further. So it is live now! 350+ commits, hundreds of lines of changelog, all free shaders.orels.sh Happy Holidays! ❤️ #unity3d #shaders

YouTube app removed the subscriptions button from the bottom bar. This is honestly so annoying as I never ever look at the home page. I just want to see videos from the people I'm subscribed to, thanks. But now its always an extra swipe for no reason 😔

Switched from ArqBackup to restic + Backrest (for the UI) as my personal backup solution. Sending files from my PC to my NAS. This thing chews through files soooo much faster. Arq's scanner ofte takes hours to finish. Restic checks the same 3M files in 15 minutes :chefkiss:

Have been sick for almost a whole week. Probably the worst it has been since the last time I got Covid like 3 years ago. Would not recommend, actual misery

Switched from using Music Bee with my library sitting on a NAS to Navidrome server + Feishin on PC + Arpeggi on iOS. Main reason for it was to avoid SMB as it kept giving me issues and would also freeze the player sometimes. Feishin allowing u to adjust volume bar size is also goated for VR overlays

Datto released the very last Destiny 2 video. With that a decade+ of my "safe space" in games is wrapping up. It was always something to come back to, it was always there. And while the game is still online and I'll probably be poking at it from time to time, this feels like the final stopping point

I hope a game like this happens again in my life, something that I come back to again and again for more than a decade. But I worry that Destiny became what WoW is for a lot of early WoW players "you just had to be there". Something you love, but cannot really explain to anyone who wasnt there

It was also a rare AAA game I actually enjoyed playing. Over that time I mostly shifted to indies, but Destiny was always there in the background, as nothing could really match the vistas, the flow and the gunplay. But its probably for the best, AAA is not in a good place anyways

Learned a little bit of webgpu + slang + odin over the last couple days. Got a new domain and used it as an excuse to spend some time porting one of my unity shaders. orels1.graphics Unfortunately, if you're on firefox - it doesnt really work, as its webgpu support is still lacking, apologies!

Did the Big Walk ending with a bunch of friends. This was so cool, if you have even a single person to experience the game with - you should

This is definitely gonna make so eone unhappy, but for me thats Halo. I grew ip with doom and half-life. And i tried so many times to get into halo: the originals, the new ones and the anniversary variants, and it just never lands. Despite hundreds of hours in destiny and tons of other shooters.

No hate, no dogpiling, just curious. For me, it's Skyrim. Don't know why, considering it should be exactly my kind of game, but it just didn't click for me.

I have accepted that at this point a certified "you just had to experience it back then" moment. i wish i could relate and be excited , but it never clicked for me :(

Another "i can just make this" moment. Finally made a quick favorites tool that allows you to quickly play an animation on Gesture Manager from a predefined list. Together with time scale adjustments - makes it really nice to test for clipping issues. I should really find a place to dump these

Every time i have to add toggles to my avatar i end up lamenting how many clicks it takes to just add some simple stuff. A couple weeks ago i threw together an NDMF tool of my own that generates DBT-friendly toggles. Feels good to just drag and drop stuff, takes seconds due to large drop targets.

MA does get it right, thankfully, with easy to drag & drop boxes. But its approach to toggles doesn't auto-convert to DBTs ins most cases, unfortunately, which is why I ended up making my own personal tool to begin with

So its been 4 months since i moved basically everything off of vercel/supabase/etc onto my little locally hosted instance hidden behind a VPS. All I can say is that it was definitely worth it. Builds are super fast, and i have full introspection into what's actually going on

orels1@orels1.bsky.social

Took ~10 hours of work to rewrite all the things from vendor-locked solution to an open source and self/hostable stack, not too bad tbh. While not as ✨ magical ✨ - it is nice to have insight into every part of the system

*locally hosted coolify instance is what I meant to say, oops. Basically a netlify/vercel alternative u can run on any vm of your choosing

Unity 6 added some based buttons, apparently No longer do you need a custom script just to have the game view follow the scene view - now you can take over any camera and easily position it in the scene by flying around in the scene view :chefkiss:

Seems like im gonna be sending my playdate back to Panic. Credit to them for a super quick reply and immediate "yeah, we'll just replace yours". Just too sad to not have access to this joy of a device while its away!

Are there any active #VRChat world creator communities around these days? 🤔 I feel like everyone I meet is kinda doing their own thing. Either by themselves, or in a small group focused on just their world/event/community. But maybe I'm missing something obvious?

Today was a “fuck it” day. And thus it is ending with me sitting here, watching the sunset, drinking some cheap wine and enjoying a book

Me out here straight up Yandare-deving. Playdate is too constrained to run ODIN's built-in json decoder, so I have to use Playdate's built-in one. And I'm too lazy to write a reflection-based procedure to assign the values back. So now its just this, mistakes are being made on live television

Tomorrow me solved this by writing a reflection-based code generator that runs through the whole structure and writes it out as a compile time constant (properly handling nested structs and converting slices into fixed-sized arrays). Some of my ancient custom deserializer code came in super clutch

Honestly, its probably easier to just write a thing that auto-converts this json into a big chunk of odin literals instead. It is an LDTK-based tilemap, so it needs to always be in ram either way

Its been about 8 months since I reinstalled windows and been too lazy to install davinci resolve. As a result, I've been making all my tiny shitpost videos in blender. And u know, I'm becoming committed to the bit
