I used to believe that “people are mostly good.” Not so much any more.

5. "Most of the cheap cuts of meat are very inexpensive. You can buy liver or the cheap cuts." -Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., coping with high beef prices. (Reminder: "pick another protein? I'd rather pick another senator" (ad for Scott Colom) applies to everyone, not just Mississippians.)

Let’s elect presidents who are avid bicyclists and hikers instead of golfers.

Trump shares plan to overhaul East Potomac golf course amid court fight over land and 450+ trees he cut down against court orders. They are worth more than he is. With climate change crisis, more tornadoes are popping up in Eastern cities

My kids went to a quirky little Episcopal day school called Saint Michael’s. They had an amazing pageant every year, each grade doing different skits, just a few weeks after school started. It was glorious.

Is MAGA mad that we’re sending aid to Venezuela? They keep saying they don’t mind in the that children in Africa are starving and dying of AIDS, because of the cancellation of USAID, that we shouldn’t spend a penny on non-Americans.

Yesterday at the post office, I was a little bit behind a guy with a T-shirt that said “HAM SAMMICH“ on the back, and I reached for my phone to get a snap, but you will just have to imagine it because I left my phone in the car.

I have thought since he started this term that when trump turns 80 (that’s in eight days now) that he will suffer a massive narcissistic injury at being really really obviously OLD. I expect an ever higher level of crazy. It won’t be pretty.

Looking at the morning’s news, I think of the time many years ago when a friend was explaining how to play Sim City. They said at first they thought the areas marked out with Rs designated Republicans and they razed those areas. Only later did they understand it was for residential areas. If only.

They’re invasive. Never planted one, but they sure planted themselves. Meant to thin them this spring but my knees decided they’re 100 years old and I couldn’t. There’s a FOREST of them in my front yard and it’s kind of brilliant.

This Ukraine war is going to be a fascinating study for historians as a David and Goliath 21st-century story. I hope Ukraine is wholly triumphant. War is still too terrible to be a spectator sport to cheer. Superpowers have been sent home tails between legs before. Shouldn’t be such a surprise.

My father was a career Air Force pilot and I saw a lot of air shows and I hated them. So much unnecessary danger.

BREAKING: Mid-air collision involving Navy Super Hornets/Growlers during Gunfighter Skies Air Show at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho; 4 parachutes seen.

When I was little I got mumps, and then my sister got mumps, nbd really, and then my dad got mumps, and you antivaxxers out there, someday some of your adult sons will get mumps and you will have regrets.

There’s no good fix for the lousy structure our shortsighted founding fathers left us with. Authoritarianism and rule by an unpopular minority is our reality and our destiny.

With the inexorable march of “too many birthdays” I am starting to look at certain (and uncertain) medical interventions. Chatter about not being able to afford Medicare, coupled with another war of choice and requests for enormous DoD (WAR!) budgets piss me off. Or, potentially, worse.

I recall the Arab oil embargo of 1973 and I got a lot of college work hours pulling documents for a big comprehensive energy index our uni put together. It seemed like a good idea at the time to develop alternatives to oil. Oh well.

I have a cousin who has a son (who sends me Christmas cards!) who works for the State Department and is posted with his family in the Middle East. I don’t have the heart to ask her what his situation is.
