I feel like this area in Flipnic is kind of underutilized, i.e. there isn't really a good reason to be here (apart from coin farming). So, I added a yellow mission that gives you 10000pts if you hit these alligators to collect coins a perscribed number of times.

These changes were made \w FlipnicFileTools and a SST decompiler/compiler tool I'm working on (github.com/MarkusMaal/F...) and then packed into BIN files with FlipnicFileTools 2.4 Beta and the final ISO file was repacked with mkps2iso.

I remember watching these sorts of presentations for Windows 10 and most of them were way more exciting compared whatever this was. Why? Because they weren't just hyper-focused on AI hype, these presentations talked about new improvements coming to Windows you'd actually care about.

My YT channel now has voice replies! So, if you leave a comment on a video, I may reply to it with my actual voice. If you don't want to hear my voice for whatever reason, you can also see transcriptions for the audio replies. It's an experimental thing atm, just try'na see how people react to it.

so, I am making a mod for Flipnic that adds full 16:9 widescreen support to the game (incl. the menus) along with a few gameplay tweaks, e.g. new missions and bug fixes it's quite early in development and not publically available, but I'm sharing some progress I've made so far \w 16:9 conversion

Did you know that there is a hidden debug menu screen in Flipnic? It lets you toggle menu elements on and off. Up/Down to navigate (>) □ to hide/show group or element (*) O to go into a group submenu/show menu X to exit a group △ to hide the menu You can't leave this screen AFAIK once you get here

It's also kind of hard to navigate, because the > character often goes off screen. In order to get to this menu, you have to manually force the game to select item #5 from the main menu, which seems to often just cause crash instead.

For those wondering, the way Flipnic checks if the stage can be a demo is literally just a hard-coded if statement (this code only applies to original game, there probably is another very similar function for free play/2p mode) v-- still, we can patch the MIPS assembly to get this cursed screenshot

I also discovered you can force the game to select Geometry B from the menu, but when you try to play it, it just loads Biology A Even stranger, there is code that explicitly checks for this and makes sure it is possible to select it, because if there wasn't, it would jump back to Optics B.

Flipnic Freecam v3 has been released! Patch notes: - Use memory pointers instead of pre-defined offsets (fixes some edge cases) - Animated FPC playback - Ability to show/hide score & demo timer - Camera pointer locking/forcing - Checkboxes mirror cheat table - Wider FOV range - Fixed tooltips

I have some good news and bad news The good news is that I managed to figure out how to enable progressive scan in Flipnic (I located the function that's responsible for setting the video mode \w Ghidra) The bad news is that it breaks FMVs and on original console, you're stuck with 240p it seems

Testing in PCSX2: 1. Menu bar > Debug > Open Debugger (visible if "Tools > Show advanced settings" is checked) 2. R5900 (EE) tab 3. Memory Search 4. Search for "B0FFBD27002404003000" with type "Byte Array" 5. Double click the only result 6. In memory view, right click > Go to in disassembly (1/2)

7. Press B to add a breakpoint 8. Reset the console and wait until the game pauses 9. Go to "Registers" tab 10. Double click on the right most 32-bit segment for a1 register 11. Change it from a 1 to 0 and hit OK 12. Press the "Run" button to continue 13. Press START to skip frozen intro FMVs (2/2)

I was away from my PC for a little bit and when I came back, the screen was black, but still turned on. I tried to move my mouse and press keys on the keyboard but nothing happened. I pressed Ctrl+Alt+Shift+B to reset the video driver, which made a beep sound, but it didn't help. #cursed #computer

This was especially terrifying, because the three fans on my graphics card, when spinning at max speed, are REALLY FUCKING LOUD. I then proceeded to hold down the power button for ~5 seconds and it turned off for a fraction of a second before instantly turning back on.

I saw that the computer had hibernated. When resuming there was an AMD driver installation in progress and it was asking me to restart the computer. WHAAAAAT? I went ahead and performed the restart and now the computer just works? Can someone explain wtf just happened to my PC?

Being a little pissed, I pressed this key combination multiple times and it made multiple beep sounds, but didn't solve the problem. I pressed the power button once to maybe have the computer perform a safe shutdown, but then the screen turned off and the graphics card fans ramped to 100%.

I've seen a few people incorrectly state that either Ubisoft or Capcom created #Flipnic. That is actually not correct, because they just published the game, being responsible for overseas distribution of the game. The actual developers were from Sony Computer Entertainment (a.k.a. Japan Studio).

Why does the PS1 have a pink plus texture in the BIOS ROM? Considering the menu cursor is also pink, it's likely some unused variant/state of it. 9, 10 and 11 are for SoundScope (the music visualizer) save icon, so they aren't unused 2, 4 and 6 aren't displaying for some reason

I am posessing something sacred - Gran Turismo 4 Spec II mod with PAL soundtrack. I basically copy-pasted the files from bgm/uk dir. from the PAL version and repacked the Spec II ISO with them. This process is a bit difficult, so I'm planning on releasing a how-to guide to walk through the process.

I'm not going to distribute any patches due to copyright (same reason as the mod author gave for not including any extra music), so a guide is the best I can do. Doing this WILL break mod updates, so you're going to have to download the full version and then do this modification every update.

I managed to add a custom mission to Flipnic – Lane Count Mission 1 for Optics at Non-Stop Area. I copy-pasted the event function for Biology LCM 3 and did some changes so that it would with this lane. I also added a corresponding MISSION hexagon and a custom picture to the stage status screen.

idk how, but I somehow bugged the game in a way, where I completed the perfect bumper village mission before the regular bumper village in Optics also yes, I'm working on a mod that adds custom missions to Flipnic (any suggestions for what to add are welcome)

Every segment of Optics stages in Flipnic: These are loaded/unloaded during gameplay depending on the camera used. You may also notice that the respawn point isn't always set to the specific segment itself and sometimes there's a secondary respawn (e.g. when you lose 2 balls in bumper area)

UPDATE: it wasn't an emulator bug. My code was generating interleaves that were 99.9% correct, resulting in the video freezing as the audio/video streams very slowly drifted apart. Adding a fix for this basically eliminated the freeze and the bad apple demo played all the way to the end!

Just to share my progress in adding custom FMVs to Flipnic, this is the closest attempt so far - no audio skips, but it soft-locks at a certain point. I haven't 100% ruled out that this could be an emulator glitch, so I'll test on physical hardware tomorrow and share the results with you.

I also tried a custom transparent FMV with colors (still in PAL mode) and it worked if I doubled the number of frames between each audio burst. The only issue is that Flipnic handles video opacity kind of weirdly, so using pure black doesn't actually make the background 100% transparent.
