It's easy to think every #dev should maintain a blog, contribute to open source and have multiple side projects on the go. You can be passionate about tech without doing any of those things. As a father, husband and full-timer, I barely have time to brush my teeth sometimes, let alone all that

🚀 Just published a new article where I dive deep into a modular component architecture to simplify building adaptable Android apps across various form factors. Give it a read if you're looking for improving your app's adaptability and maintainability! #AndroidDev medium.com/@GerardPalig...

Plugins: Currently, plugins aren’t supported, which makes it impossible to work with SQLDelight (from my opinion, a key library in the KMP ecosystem) or to use GitHub Copilot. While JetBrains AI is available, I find it less relevant for my needs compared to Copilot.

Conclusion: Fleet shows potential and could become a strong alternative to AS. For now, we still need to switch between three IDEs: AS for Android-specific tasks, Xcode for iOS-specific tasks, and Fleet for KMP. This is probably an essential point to work on to improve the developer experience.

Less productivity: Fleet makes development feel slower. It does nothing to help create source sets, Kotlin files, and detects automatic imports after copy-paste. It also seems like the autocomplete is much slower.

Previews are quite basic. I haven’t found a way to inspect outlines for internal components, interact with them, or view animation previews, and I suspect there may be additional limitations.

🌟 What an incredible experience presenting at Droidcon London! I’m so grateful to the organizers for selecting my talk and to my co-speaker, David Ta, for sharing the stage with me. 🙌 If you missed it, you can check out my slides here: speakerdeck.com/gerardpaligo.... #AndroidDev #AdaptiveLayout
