In 2003 I started working in games Some did well, some not or unreleased These are those games🧵 1: Fuzz and Rocket. Unreleased I learned the art of making 16 colour sprites & animations. Learned I was stupid & would work unpaid & that games don't always get released www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5pK...

There is a thing in academic writing where you are supposed to cite sources & people can verify them themselves. Use multiple sources to show the info broadly accepted, and where possible cite counter positions to show you have considered them. Hobby rumor mills are the antithesis of this process.

The source is singular and unverifiable "trust me my uncle works for Nintendo". There is no attempt to interrogate why person X/location Y would even be the go to for such a leak. There is no counter position considered, or examination of inconsistencies or implausibilities in the 'fact'.

The only consideration becomes: does this story on a single, quick uninformed pass claim to verify something I already believe/want to be to be true.

'Culture war' related fictions even more so. Its the domain of folks who already believe a thing sans proof & are willing to latch on to anything they think confirms that belief. If it turns out to be a lie, who cares, you will just look for something else to confirm the thing you *know* to be true.

There's a thing in the hobby where people either deeply convinced that their pet theory is true or hungry for attention, present their fictions as fact. "I have insider contacts, people were fired over fem Custodes, they will never be mentioned again!" For some folks any attention is good attention.

This post is unavailable.

It's part of the reason I was obsessed with this stuff for so long. I was baffled by people who'd lie to their follower using an easily disprovable fiction. I was fascinated that they believed their own shit so hard, the idea that reality/time would out this lie, wasn't even a consideration.

I eventually realised that it didn't matter. The kind of followers they cultivated didn't care that their 'sources' were repeatedly caught in lies, only that they provided a weaponised fiction in the now.

There is an all to common type of bigot who mythologies the achievements of their race/gender/sexuality then pretends that by belonging to that group, those achievements are some how theirs and that makes them better then the 'other' who actually did something.

You see this a lot in gender rep bigotry. "There is no way women soldiers/athletes can be stronger then men!" But they are stronger then you... and you think you could be a solder/athlete, that somehow you could level up and do that role, but the women already stronger then you can not...

Or when you get mediocre white men, who invent a fiction that only white people advance science as if that elevates their own achievement free ass.

Haven't painted a mini for a chunk of months, finally back on my shit with a new (old) army and project. Primed and ready to paint a test model. #WarhammerCommunity #TheOldWorld #HighElves

The Golden Demon winners have been posted and as usual the talent on display is undeniable... but the current aesthetic flavor of the completion is so not my thing, I'm really meh at it all. Mix it up a little judges! :)

Sick of my indecision, I took a final look over the Old World armies, picked the one I most wanted to paint and bought it. High Elves it is! Now to Crack open my old Art of Warhammer Online book for additional inspiration.

I went to the shop. I bought nothing. My brain continues to land lock itself with choice paralysis. *sigh*

Looking at the old world and trying to decide which of the many cool armies I'd like to commit to. (Don't want to do my regular 10 army thing :P)

Talking with friends and I have reconsidered. I'm always attracted to playing fragile armies but rarely have the wargaming skill to pull it off and end up having a bad time. So now I'm eyeing Dwarfs and if I don't flip flop again before tomorrow will prob pick up some Ironbreakers (I love em).

One of my university art subjects involved exploring the technique of rotoscoping. I created a couple of pieces using it, the first was simply rotoscoping some movie footage in my own style, in the second I filmed my own arm/hand and using that as the base, I mimicked an existing style & made this.

Went looking for old-world game groups and events in Brisbane and Queensland, and damn the amount of AI used in their posters and event images is disheartening. Really taking the shine of the idea of branching into a new gaming community. 🤮

Talking about this with my partner highlighted its self sabotage. People want these game events to exist. They will still attend even if the poster is graphically lackluster. However, using AI to make your poster will guarantee some folk wont attend on principal. It's use reduces your numbers.

For the interested, the first was a brief scene from one of my favorite films. (They had to be brief given how long it takes to do this stuff and how little time I could really dedicate to a single subject amongst many)

Mulling this over and being unable to decide (surprising no one) I'm going to start with Dark Elves. I bought a bunch a while back for Cities before they were squatted, and will hope they come into the main-line by the time my slow painting ass has finished the ones I own.

There's a terrible Kinder Bueno ad I get bombarded with on youtube: X has candy with a 'living' Mona Lisa. "Admiring the painting is good, being alone with it is great, sharing candy with her is Bueno" Obviously people dream of spending time with the model, not the notable artist who painted it?🥴

Of course this doesn't matter, its just a weirdly silly angle to me. You've come to look at see the most lauded art works of history, the only thing that could be better then enjoying the work, is if the artwork lost its subject, and the model had a chocolate bar with you...

Tiss a sad day for a games company whose creations I have loved. :(

Love the idea, let's start a train of art inspired by Bioware games ❤️ These stories mean the world to me, its characters inspired me for years, the artists and writers behind them literally helped shape my artistic journey. I am thankful for everything you've created 🫶

The posts about this project are getting so suppressed on Facebook, can you give me a hand? Launching Wed 21st October, 20 brand new miniatures - hand sculpted and hand cast. Deeply researched non conventional members of the Dutch Resistance! www.kickstarter.com/projects/bad...

kickstarter.comComing soon: WW2: Heroes of the Dutch Resistance - 28mm Pewter MiniaturesTop Quality 28mm Pewter Miniatures for WW2 Historical & Pulp Gaming & Painting. Hand Sculpted & Cast.

I dislike example minis are the 3D file/digitally painted. I want to see the unpainted & painted mini. More, I would love so see a mini with an undercoat and a wash, to see how the detail takes it. A well painted mini ≠ a good mini, a skilled painter can paint a flat surface like its detailed.

So I will be doing an intensive over what would normally be the summer hols (T3), an course that will smooth out the rest of my study load. It's drawing foundations, which may seem weird given I can draw, but I've never studied it formally and I have gaps, so it should be a fun elective.

The opportunity to do a lot of drawing, drawing related study, life drawing, forcing me to use different mediums and stretch my rusty traditional (non digital) skills is an attractive prospect. The fact that it fills out my final unaccounted for 10 credit points is a bonus.

I know I can sound like a broken record with this stuff, but part of the reason I'm leaning toward wood/high elves as an old world army is there are women in the mix. I know its the burden of a game with older minis, but at this point in my life I'm a bit over with having to kitbash better rep.

It remains annoying to me that one has to wait for armies to be refreshed for this stuff to get addressed (and even then new chaos), rather then them adding a few additional figures or heads like they did as a stop gap with the Cadians. /broken record.

Every now and then you take a photo of your minis and accidentally capture something a little funny. Like this one of some of my GSC from a couple of years back and the upstaging guys at the edge. #WarhammerCommunity

With autism, it's easy to hate parts of yourself. I have a thing where if their needs to be a visit from a tradie, I need to know at least 24hr prior to 'make peace' with it. I hate that it makes me feel like I'm fragile & incapable of such a simple task, & the imposition it puts on my partner.

It's like I need the time to prep for this nothing event, to be able to mask up. But it's such a nothing event, its deeply frustrating for everyone involved. And I know that in the moment, even though I will dislike it, I'll be fine. But I hate that it's even an issue for me a grown ass adult.

I have packed up everything I owned into 2 boxes and changed continents, not knowing if there would be anything for me there when I did so and have traveled solo to countries where I don't speak the language... Visitor in my space... there better be substantial warning! 🙄

I quite like it here for hobby stuff. No social media space is perfect, but places like twitter were chock with tinfoil-hats shouting fact free culture war fictions to adoring audiences of morons. The combo of lies & stupidity was like sand in the gears of my brain. Less slurs/abuse here too :P

I feel like AI is doing the exact shit many of us thought it would - ie providing misinformation while adding to our workload. Want to use google to look something up? Be prepared for a simply wrong AI answer to your query, unless you take the time to add -AI to every question, every time.

In theatre there is a term 'post show blues' where after months of rehearsal/performance & living in each others pockets, its over and there is a a void. Uni is doing the same thing to me. For months I've been thinking of finishing assign x, moving on to y unendingly, then the semester wraps and...

While doing my research into the history of magic lanterns I found out that the early ones used candles/lamps and were very dull, this was replaced by the Argand lamp which was better, the finally by the... Limelight, which was also used for theatrical lighting. THE MORE YOU KNOW!

Final day of uni for this semester! Hopefully I'll get some hobby done over my few weeks off, before I rush back for an intensive in T3 because it smooths out the rest of my degree.

Boom done and all assessment in. Now just to decide if I want to put an application in for the academic group I was invited to apply for. My knee jerk reaction to such things is they feel a little elitist... but I've always been weird about such things to my own detriment.

Space marine destroyer squads use forbidden weaponry, but being a child in the 80s has led me to have the wrong interpretation of their 'Rad' weapons.

In the 90s there was a surge in TTRPGs, Mini games & CCGs. For a hot second even in Aus there were shops that were dedicated exclusively to selling CCGs & with like 100 system options. Then it all crashed and seemingly only a handful struggled on. It feels like we are rushing there again...
