I rarely post art, but this example of “Socialist Realism” was included in one of my courses on the Soviet Union as a talking point - That period, 1953 saw American influence too of painting a rosy future for our country; of course profoundly different society

“.. food insecurity among active-duty troops has been a problem for decades - military pay is insufficient for many enlisted families - The Gates Commission – appointed by President Richard Nixon in 1969 highlighted the “inequity” of military pay, compared with civilian wages”

“foundations of the current military pay structure were established by the Career Compensation Act of 1949 - At the time, only about 30% of enlisted army soldiers were married - creation of the all-volunteer force in the early 1970s: enlisted marriage rates climbed, peak of nearly 60% by the 1990s”

* Sadly, not exactly new hardships for MARRIED Enlisted Military - In the 1960s, as a young Division Officer in a Navy Squadron, most of our first-tour marrieds were in rat-infested Wherry Housing (WWII “temporary housing”) - straining to provide for children, while facing family separations

* Not so shocking: - Prisons and workhouses for centuries were intended to be as self-supporting as possible - The alternative to Self-supporting Prisons: # DEATH # (Britain had over 220 “minor crimes” eligible for Death) * Penitence or Correction only began in the first half of the 19th Century

Shocking things most Americans don't know: 1. Slavery is still legal -- The 13th Amendment to the US Constitution states: "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime". Many businesses use prison labor, which is LEGAL SLAVERY

- Family farms are jeopardized by irresponsible Wars & Bad Tariff Policy - Corporations that Farm can withstand this insanity and maybe benefit with lower taxes on the corporation itself

Today, Neil showed me around his sugar beet farm in Ada. Thanks to Trump's illegal war, diesel prices have skyrocketed in the middle of harvest. Our farmers deserve stability from the federal government - not more chaos. It's time to end this war.

- Historians may debate just how delegates to the Constitutional Convention in 1787 to inserted concessions to the Slavery States - But, we can forget the long-standing fears of White Southerners about slave reprisals, long before American Independence

As early as 1639, Virginia prohibited Africans from carrying guns because “what white Southerners feared the most … [was] an armed black man unafraid to retaliate against both the system of slavery and those who fought to defend it.”

1) In Colonial New England, the majority of their exports went to Slave Plantations 2) New England’s wealth from the Slave Trade built the first US Industrial Factory (In Rhode Island 1793) and the largest factory near Boston in 1812 3) AMERICAN transport of slaves began with MASSACHUSETTS, in 1643

This post is unavailable.

* By early 18th Century, the largest supplier of Slaves shipped to America was by Rhode Islanders * By 1800, the #1 Slave Trade Home Port in all of America, was a small town in Rhode Island * Slavery made that small town of Bristol RI wealthy, and James DeWolf the second richest American by 1830s

- Please note that this comparison lists countries generally considered as industrialized or in other ways highly developed - The only nations with worse record of gun violence than USA are those with low incomes or other major developmental problems * USA does have the ABILITY to do better
