Went to Westland Distillery on Thursday to vote on the next few handlfills. Some interesting stuff coming down the pipeline. Being able to vote for three out of the seven options did lead to some strategic voting. Will be curious to see how it washes out.

Got a new James Bond PB! Got to the mini-wizard mode on second ball two and wasn't sure what to do from there. Was really hoping I'd finally hit over a billion with the bonus, but no dice.

If you have any love of tricky platforming, you owe it to yourself to give this demo a try. It's a fantastic game.

Beat Toroban, at least the current version! It's a fun game with some rough edges. Hoping the rebalance updates will add some fun new puzzles, but wanted to complete the game before those edges were sanded off. Also, forgot to post this for a bit, lol.

Yearly reminder that you can still play complete versions of both the Caverns Game and Castle Quest from Caverns of Blood here: bloodycaverns.net

Postmortem time! I mentioned trying to do this a week ago and failing, so I wanna discuss what went better. First, and simplest: I got out of the house sooner. Don't remember exactly when I left before, but I got to West Seattle around 5 PM. Way too late.

Add-a-Ball’s got layers. Like parfaits or onions. Anyway. I did it. All the Adams Familys in Seattle. Maybe a postmortem tomorrow, but for now I’m going to bed.

And lastly because I think it's funny, I managed to play three different generations of Star Trek machines in reverse chronological order on Saturday:

Okay, forgot one really last thing. According to Google Maps, I traveled at least 27 miles. My phone claims I walked 10 of those, and I got 23,500ish steps during the journey.

Also, a couple shout outs: Probably wouldn't have even tried this withoutOneBusAway (@onebusaway.bsky.social). Been using it for ages for real time bus tracking. It's so much nicer to know that a bus is real and should be at the stop in five minutes than reading the schedule and praying.

Similarly, I'd've never known where all the The Addams Family machines were without @pinballmap.com. I'd prolly play a lot less pinball in general if it didn't exist.

No indication what went wrong. Just "posting replies" or "uploading images" and then the page would refresh. Poof! Gone! Started copying my text before trying to post. Just gave up on alt text entirely. Maybe iPhone Chrome isn't the way to use Bluesky? Don't love adding more apps.

If I do one of these kinds of traveling threads again, I'll probably write a small frontend for me that saves stuff that fails to post. It can't be that hard to shove text into window.localStorage.

It was a little annoying to carry--ended up causing my zipper to chafe me a bit, being in my breast pocket--but totally worth it. My phone ran down a few times, but the external battery was still close to full. Prolly need to replace the phone's internal battery.

What didn't work? Bluesky. At the start of the trek, I was using the thread append button and typing out alt text for my images, but it kept eating my posts wholesale! Some of those posts were thumbed out three times before I could get it to post.

Fourthly: Bad data. I'd written down that the Seattle Pinball Museum closed at 8 PM. It closes at 6 PM. Not sure if I just typo'd it or if the hours change outside of summer when I wrote my spreadsheet of locales.

So, the major improvements were really just waking up earlier, slightly better routing and buying an external battery.

Secondly: I didn't understand the 50 bus. Its last stop in the West Seattle Arcade stop on Alki Beach, and that's where the drivers get to take a 30 minute break. You must get on a bus that may or may not have any signage indicating it's the 50 until it's basically leaving. Wasted 30 minutes there.

Thirdly: My dang phone. It's an iPhone 13 Mini referb. The battery life is fine for most days, but it was already at 70% before I left Larry's Tavern. Would not have been able to post live. At best, I'd've gotten pictures if I never used my phone for anything else.

Here's how Jupiter's Adams Family sounds when you enter a mansion room. Also, it's really hard to record pinball one handed. Would've loved to show off the train noise, cause it's hilarious, but that's not as easy as backhanding the electric chair scoop.

Adam’s Family plays fine, but the audio is really weirdly pitched. I got some video of it, but I don’t know how to edit on mobile.
