In the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change #ipcc report, we found that human-caused #climatechange has driven two species extinct, increased #wildfire, killed #trees, and caused other impacts in #ecosystems. People cutting #carbon pollution can halt climate change www.ipcc.ch/report/ar6/w...

Human-caused #climatechange under very high emissions could double fire frequency in Yosemite National Park. Cutting #carbon pollution could keep #wildfire near natural levels. Walking, biking, and public transit can help halt #climatechange. If U.S. cars and light trucks were a separate country, they would be the 5th largest #carbon polluter in the world. Research @pfriedling.bsky.social, doi.org/10.5194/essd...; @ctrglobsust.bsky.social, ghgi.cgs.umd.edu/reports.html

Halting #deforestation could cut global #carbon emissions 12%, reducing #climatechange, protecting #nature, improving people’s well-being. Research @pfriedling.bsky.social, doi.org/10.5194/essd...; Mo et al. 2023, doi.org/10.1038/s415...

Endangerment of natural ecosystems by #climatechange caused by #greenhousegases from human activities - my report to current U.S. administration, presenting strong scientific evidence supporting 2009 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency #endangerment finding www.patrickgonzalez.net/images/Gonza...

In 2024, global #renewable power capacity reached 4,448 GW—an increase of 15% in just one year. 91% of new projects outpriced fossil fuels, avoiding approx. $57 billion in costs. Clean energy is no longer an option—it’s the new economic baseline. bit.ly/4lGceLK

🚨📢 New IRENA data shows that in 2024, 91% of newly commissioned renewable power capacity delivered electricity at a lower cost than the cheapest fossil fuel-fired option. Renewables remain cost competitive while supporting energy security and economic stability. Read: bit.ly/3TSg6gE

Human-caused #climatechange caused by #greenhousegases from cars, coal burning, and other human activities endangers #ecosystems, #nationalparks, and people - my science comments on current U.S. administration report www.patrickgonzalez.net/images/Gonza...

The @ipcc.bsky.social has selected UC Berkeley climate change scientist and forest ecologist Patrick Gonzalez as a lead author on its next global scientific assessment of climate change. news.berkeley.edu/2025/08/22/i...

Gonzalez has served as a lead author on four previous IPCC reports. For the upcoming assessment, he is part of a team producing the North America chapter of the volume on climate change impacts, adaptation and vulnerability.

“It’s an honor to advance climate change science and solutions as part of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change,” Gonzalez said. “This work provides a strong foundation for innovative policies and meaningful efforts to halt climate change.”

Honored to be selected again by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change @ipcc.bsky.social as a lead author, for the next science assessment of #climatechange www.ipcc.ch/2025/08/18/p..., providing a strong science basis for policy and action to halt human-caused climate change.

The U.S. National Climate Assessments make objective science on #climatechange publicly available so that local communities can protect people and nature from serious harm. You will find the original files, 2001 to 2023, publicly available to download, here: www.patrickgonzalez.net#us_national_...

The impacts of Trump's campaign against American science will likely be profound, write John P. Holdren and Neal Lane. "The rapidly growing damage to the scientific pillar of American well-being and influence requires that Republican members of Congress stand up to rein Trump in."

Human-caused #climatechange is harming the rich #biodiversity of plants, animals, and #ecosystems that sustains nature and human well-being. Human-caused #climatechange, human ignitions (temperate shrublands, LA California), unnatural suppression (temp forests), #deforestation (tropical forests), are increasing #wildfire. Solutions - cut #carbon pollution, halt ignitions and defor, use natural fire (temp forests). doi.org/10.5070/P539...

Human-caused #climatechange caused most of the increase in area burned by #wildfire in summer in northern and central California forests, 1996-2021, #detection #attribution research by @marco-turco.bsky.social, @climate-guy.bsky.social, colleagues, in @pnas.org doi.org/10.1073/pnas...

Walls really do tumble. But the cause of freedom is a call to action for each new generation, Bono writes.

After being elected president in 1976 and serving only one term, Jimmy Carter went on to have an extraordinary life that included a Nobel Peace Prize. Threaded here is his story. wapo.st/49ZLa55

Breaking News: The EPA banned two solvents found in everyday products and used in dry cleaning that can cause cancer and other serious diseases.

In the African Sahel, #climatechange, livestock, and timber cutting have severely reduced small tree densities. Natural regeneration, conservation, and cutting #carbon pollution can help restore #trees. Research by A.M. Lykke, N. Rømer, @patrickgonzalez.bsky.social, et al. doi.org/10.1016/j.bi...

Human-caused #climatechange has caused the death of #trees and local loss of tree species in the African Sahel. People depend on trees. Natural regeneration locally can help. Cutting #carbon pollution globally is the solution. doi.org/10.1016/j.ja.... doi.org/10.3354/cr01...
