Professor Martine Rebetez's farewell lecture yesterday at Université de Neuchâtel A magnificent lecture where she traced the history of research on climate change, trends, challenges, disinformation campaigns and ways to change course.

The geography of opposition to motorway Swiss voters rejected to expand 6 motorway sections ➡️Cities voted no, other municipalities were divided ➡️Vote reflected🇨🇭traditional left-right political divide ➡️Municipalities close to the projects often voted no but less than expected doi.org/10.1016/j.jt...

📢 New paper: Beyond the commute: teleworking, mobility patterns and CO₂ emissions in Switzerland Using data from a survey of 5000 workers, we show that teleworking doesn't automatically lead to lower emissions. Its impact depends on both teleworking frequency and experience doi.org/10.1038/s443...

Some see a whale, I see sharrows in a round-about 😉 Are you aware of studies addressing the effects of such painting? In Switzerland cyclists are advised to riddle in the middle of round abouts. And yes, there is a stuffed whale transported to a new museum in Fribourg/Freiburg

Analysis of 4000 overtaking maneuvers in 🇨🇭 📉 79% of 🚗 passed 🚲 with less than 1.5 meters of clearance 📉 34% less than 1 meter 📉 Average clearance was 115 cm when overtaking at 30 km/h and 118 cm at 50 km/h 📉 Cyclists towing a child trailer generally passed just as closely as cyclists riding alone

📢 New paper in PLOS Climate! Does teleworking really reduce CO₂ emissions? Based on a survey of 1000 teleworkers, we show that while teleworking reduces emissions linked to commuting, part of these gains can be offset by increased housing space requirements and ICT use doi.org/10.1371/jour...

Did you know that in Thun 🇨🇭you can ride your bike to a surf session in the Alps? 🚴‍♂️🏄‍♂️⛰️ Just hop on your bike, follow cycling paths, and arrive at a standing river wave in the heart of the city and surrounded by mountains.

On Saturday I was invited by @pro-velo.ch to speak about motonormativity! Time to change the way we think about mobility...

‼️ Safe, efficient, and attractive cycling routes are essential to encourage more people to ride But how do we overcome motorised traffic and topography? Here are a solutions from Fribourg 🇨🇭 🚲 Underpass 🚲 Junction as a shared space 🚲 Giving priority to cyclists 🚲 Cycle lane under a railway bridge

🚶‍♀️ 2nd day of the jury for the pedestrian facilities award by Pedestrian Mobility Switzerland. We finalized the ranking among many high quality projects that encourage walking, as well as improving public spaces, green spaces, and quality of life in neighbourhoods. Press release in September!

🚲 The Grandfey Bridge connects Fribourg with Düdingen/Guin ➡️ Path under the railway for 🚶‍♂️ 🚶‍♀️ 🚴 but with steep stairs ➡️ 2 ramps for cyclists are being built as part a cycling network in the urban region of Fribourg Easy access + a safe, direct and connected route + a stunning view ✅ ✅ ✅

Short stay in Paris! 🚲 Jury for Léo Tallandier's Phd on "The diversity of cycling patterns within and between functional urban areas" Congrats! 🚲 Cycle tour with Frédéric Héran to see the projects implemented by the City of Paris: cycle lanes, traffic calming, school streets, greening Impressive!

After 14 years as co-chairs of the Neuchâtel Geographical Society, Valérie Sauter and I have stepped down! 14 years? That’s a tenth of the SNG’s existence, around 90 events & the Géo-Regards journal. Plenty of memories of conferences, visits... Thank you to all who have been part of this adventure!

🚲 Today was a good (cycling) day! 🚲 Visit of Bern with my master's students (bike station, junctions, cycle streets, etc.). 🚲 I then cycled 60 km back home. I even reached the top 3 of the bike-to-work scheme at the University of Lausanne that started today. Won't be able to keep this pace 🥵

In Zurich for the jury of "Flâneur d'Or" organized by Pedestrian Mobility Switzerland ➡️ 82 entries! A lot of work 😉 But shows a growing will to design walkable environments 👍 flaneurdor.ch Picture next to Zurich station. Not an entry but a good example of a new attractive place to stay!

Lowering speed limits to 30 km/h can transform streets making them safer, calmer, and more livable. Yet these policies spark debate. This Thursday, #OUVEMA is delighted to welcome Valentina Orioli for a webinar on the case of Bologna at 12:00 (Swiss time) 👉 Register at www.unil.ch/ouvema/fr/ho...
