Well, that, and (like all action cams) the fact that it’s fixed-focus and wide angle, so is only useful for wide shots or large subjects. Its great that you can get the camera into tight spaces, but if that means the subject is close to the lens, this is the wrong camera for that. Just FYI.

TLDR: If you’re throwing a camera around on a bike helmet or you’re diving into the sea, use an action camera. But if you’re filming THINGS, either handheld or with the camera mounted on something static (ie most normal shooting situations) an iPhone will give you far better results.

Suffering movie withdrawal, so came up with an idea for a temporary bedroom home cinema. Picked out this spooky season Blu-ray selection for encouragement. I won’t manage more than three of these before Saturday, but should be fun. Need to quickly DIY a tiny projection screen first tho.

When you’re hoping to flatten a badly cupped oak worktop and need something heavy… (I think getting a couple of Martin Audio subwoofers up there might have been asking too much)

45-yr old comic book search success 👍😀. There’s another box further down the eaves too, can’t reach or see any indication what’s in that one tho. But these two are intriguing. Don’t know what to do next, do I open these up? I dont have any plans for them if I do (apart from storing them away again).

I am going to have to open these now to see what the heck I was reading. I’m surprised. I was a comic book nerd and I forgot about it.

After one last concerted effort, I managed to retrieve all three boxes. That last box appears to be… 223 issues of “Mighty World of Marvel”, the UK black and white compilations of old 1960s era Marvel comics. Worth about £3.50? 🤪

I think “CB” must be Captain Britain. I remember that title being so cheesy. Did I really buy issues 1-28 of a comic book I didn’t like? Maybe I was waiting for it to improve, or maybe it was an era in UK Marvel comics history when it was hard to get much else.

Wait wait wait… very dusty but *** this looks promising *** 🙂 (Found shoved down the end of a totally different part of the eaves).

Ouch, a bad few days for movies on Blu-ray/DVD in the UK. Zavvi have been wound up, and the website is down. And HMV is closing its flagship London store on Oxford Street (although rumoured to be moving to a new site with less crazy rent… so fingers crossed for that).

Uh oh. I have a horrible sinking feeling that my entire comic book collection that I carefully packed away in my parents’ loft space in 1977 has been dumped without my knowledge… 50 years later, there seems to be a big space where I left it. 😳

Is there some kind of viral outbreak of patronising self-righteousness over there? Is this what comic book collectors are generally like? Because if they are, I’m selling everything (which isn’t much if I can’t find these boxes).

I’m sorry if you couldn’t trust your parents when they told you they would or wouldn’t do something for you. I get it. But my parents weren’t your parents.

Current thinking: BlueSky for posting, Threads (and if I have to, X) for reading. I’m blocking ppl on Threads almost as much as I used to have to block them on X.

Comic book fans on Threads reacting with all the empathy you’d expect e.g. ROTFL emojis. Maybe those “mouse utopia” experiments have some relevance after all.

Dear BlueSky - know any medical professionals (ideally UK, but Europe works too) doing transcutaneous O2 / CO2 monitoring with *Clark sensors* ? (eg Perimed/Radiometer). 20 years of life-changing illness, only getting worse, and after my latest brush-off I might have hit a final dead-end. Thanks.

These are looking pretty alright. I mean, they’re just sketchy old fence posts, I’m not making furniture here… but quite happy what a few hours with some power tools can pull off.

Next time I’m going to try multiple passes on a table saw, break out the bits inbetween with a chisel, then hopefully one pass with a router to finish to final depth. Classic wise-after-the-event thinking. Might have done these that way if the posts and the table saw weren’t two miles apart.

I reported a leaking street water shut-off valve at the bottom of my mum’s garden to Thames Water well over a month ago. Still not fixed. Just been to investigate and worked out that in that time, it has leaked 1,500,000 litres of mains water into the ground.

That’s enough to fill your local swimming pool ten times over. Thames Water - very quick to chase payment, not so good at the rest of their job.

Starting to realise I might have a problem. To be fair, this bay of SSL4000 isn’t actually mine, I just rescued it for a friend after his wife told him she wanted him to THROW IT IN A SKIP!

This one is safely enclosed in its flightcase in the hallway, but if anyone would like to make me an offer on it… Yamaha CL5. Beautiful as new condition, but I can’t take it with me, so… 😢

This is fast becoming one of those “So where am I putting THIS one?” days. I might have more mixing consoles than I need. Of course, they all have a story...

Aww. One day I’ll have a control room big enough for you. But for now I have less space than ever, so it’s back to storage 😕. Audient Zen. Amazing, short-lived product. Fader automation, but no EQ = limited audience, and I imagine it was too expensive to keep manufacturing it. But sounds so good.

BTW, this was the desk I used to run my ITB mix vs analog summing mix tests. Using Apogee DA16X converters. The analog summed mixes were definitely better. But ultimately, ITB was the practical solution for 95% of the work I did then. Have you noticed how no-one seems to talk about this any more?

It would help if our government would wake up and acknowledge that it’s a problem NOW, not a problem that needs to be tackled at some nebulous point in the future. It needed addressing a decade ago, but of course Tories weren’t going to call it out - Brexit wouldn’t have suceeded without it.

I need to buy a new ladder. They’re not cheap, so I’m doing a bit of research. Found this user review - I don’t know who you are, Anonymous of Cornwall, but I greatly enjoyed your analysis.

Here’s a hot take, if not a popular one: Ant-Man and the Wasp is a good movie; an action-comedy in the grand tradition of action-comedies. Light viewing with a charismatic lead, some family drama, solid action, a bit of peril, a romance, and packed with visual gags and one-liners. Totally works.

And probably the best post-credit scene since I can’t remember when. Not that we judge movies by their end credits, but Marvel started this thing, so they might as well do something good with it. If you’re building up to Endgame (for the first time, or the tenth time), do not skip this movie.

I wish I was working on a new-build house instead of fighting to fix up an old one. Especially an old one I have no intention of staying in. Weird situation where I like this job, but I can’t wait for it to be over. If anyone says “They don’t make them like they used to” they can get in the bin.
