If Digger has a million fans, then I am one of them. If Digger has ten fans, then I am one of them. If Digger has only one fan then that is me. If Digger has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth. If the world is against Digger, then I am against the world.

Defending Cofnas, who had written outrageously racist stuff for years (e.g., that in a meritocracy there would be next to no Black professors because they have lower IQs), is an odd hill to die on. Yet the 100-plus academics who signed this letter are clearly willing to die on it :/

Also worth noting how many of the signatories of the letter defending Cofnas call themselves evolutionary psychologists, including those with gatekeeping roles or large public platforms. Concerning to have the discipline represented by those who, at very best, misunderstand academic freedom

Overall, persistent under-confidence in depression may involve two processes: • less persistent local-confidence signals, limiting integration into global confidence • a higher threshold for feeling confident Whether these findings generalise to clinical samples remains unclear 🔍

Higher overall depression, and most symptoms, were associated with weaker integration of local confidence into later global confidence. Moderated mediation and distributional regression suggested this reflected faster decay of local confidence over time, not greater variability 📉

Exploratory computational modelling suggested that higher depressive symptoms were linked to requiring more evidence to report high confidence, despite similar metacognitive efficiency 🧠 This conservative criterion is consistent with defensive pessimism and may contribute to under-confidence.

We replicated trait-level findings: higher overall depression and most symptoms were associated with lower local and global confidence. Within people, worse mood coincided with lower global but not local confidence, with no temporal precedence at a 2-day lag ⏱️

Finally, congratulations to all travel & poster award winners! The best part of #CPC2026 was seeing trainees & fellow early career scientists share their work with such creativity & rigor. Gives me so much hope for the future of this field 🧠📊 /fin (and now off to catch up on 5 days of sleep!)

You are up to date.
