www.nytimes.com/2025/04/23/b... You have to hand it to the Chinese. Not only are they playing the long game, but taking a wholistic approach. Everything trump is doing will make it harder for the US to compete. He is cutting our country.

Regardless of what you think is driving climate change, hobbling the agency that helps us deal with it is both short sighted and stupid.

NPR@npr.org

The agency forecasts weather, manages fisheries, and researches the world's oceans, atmosphere, and climate. The proposed budget cuts would slash the climate work entirely.

It’s so sad that it’s come to this. Thank you ProPublica.

Here’s a great cause to get behind. Do some good Congress. Stop burning everything down and build something back up

It just the VA, but the Postal Service, Social Security and any other agency that the private sector can make money off of.

Fred Wellman@fpwellman.bsky.social

The VA is having mental health clinicians work in cubicle farms and tell veterans they can’t guarantee their privacy because of SecVA’s asinine return to work order. There isn’t room! Veterans will suffer. That’s the real goal. Force VA to fail. The price? Veterans. Enough is enough.

Every American should be alarmed at even the suggestion of a presidential 3rd term. This applies to all occupants of the Oval Office no matter what the party affiliation. Folks, we can't let the American experiment end in failure. We need to continue being that "shining city on the hill".

The New York Times@nytimes.com

President Trump has not ruled out seeking a third term in office, even though the Constitution does not allow it. Here’s what to know about presidential term limits and why they exist.

WilmerHale is not bending the knee. They earned even more respect from me. Too bad so many other caved.

Judge Susan Crawford’s record of fair rulings is critical and stands in contrast to the growing influence of outside money. Voters need to focus on her proven commitment to justice, not the corporate-backed forces trying to sway the outcome. #TheReformers

What is happening in the US threatens all of us not just immigrants and visitors. Every person deserves divinities treatment and due process.

The Atlantic@theatlantic.com

“Trump was reelected with a popular mandate to deport immigrants here illegally. He could easily do so without threatening our open society,” writes Conor Friedersdorf. Instead, he is targeting foreigners in ways that put Americans’ rights at risk:

It should be “both Democrats and Republicans”. What a shame that the republicans have abdicated their oversight responsibilities.

SCOOP: Senate Democrats are proposing a sprawling investigation into Trump officials' use of a Signal group chat to discuss a planned military attack in Yemen.

A look into the chat thread. Telling.

Excerpts of a Signal chat published Monday by The Atlantic provide a rare and revealing look at the private conversations of top Trump administration officials as they weighed plans for U.S. strikes in Yemen. See excerpts from the group chat. nyti.ms/4iIBq2Z

Let the memory failures begin. I mean it happened a few days ago. That’s a long time in today’s political cycles.

Elect a clown. Expect a circus. Every single one of these people should be fired, and most likely in jail. Imagine a regular soldier or regular government worker did this and act accordingly.

Time for Congress to proved their relevance and not only open an investigation into Signalgate, but take swift action against those who committed this very serious breach of national security.

Christopher Webb@cwebbonline.com

First off, Pete Hegseth is a disgrace and should be fired. Second, instead of being an asshole and trash-talking the journalist, he should be thanking him for not posting anything top-secret that’s still to come.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that the executive order President Donald Trump plans to sign Thursday will not completely shut down the Education Department, which would require congressional action.

Don’t count on the courts to save democracy We are in the midst of a constitutional crisis. What to do? Find local and special elections that matter. Get behind them. Vote with your pocketbook. Keep talking. The courts are not going to save us. They have no power of enforcement

We could use some more 60’s and 79’s caliber musicians with a revolutionary sprit to inspire the nation with song and motivate the masses to take action.

Jesse Colin Young, whose vocals for the Youngbloods graced one of the anthems of the peace-and-love era, “Get Together,” before pursuing a solo career that lasted more than five decades, died on Sunday. He was 83.

I will say this again and again. We are in a constitutional crisis. The executive branch is disregarding the courts. There is no rule of law anymore. Further, Congress has abdicated its role in governance and oversight.

The New York Times@nytimes.com

The federal judge’s ruling was clear: The Trump administration could not use an obscure wartime law from the 18th century to deport people without a hearing. That did not happen. Instead, the Trump administration sent more than 200 migrants to El Salvador over the weekend.
