The American left's newfound interest in due process almost 25 years starting the war on terror is great and all, but jeez, it could have come earlier.

if you think Americans have access to free and unrestricted AI models, try asking Google Gemini about Putin. Google apparently considers Putin to be an important figure in American politics and as such, has banned discussions of his figure and politics.

Everyone should watch this video. @vladvexler.bsky.social highlights aspects of narcissism that I think most people are not aware of, and how it explains Trump’s submissive attitude towards Putin.

Maybe Europe should have a closer relationship with China. Relying on the US seems dumb and a stronger China could perhaps help keep the US in check. There is something attractive about China's straightforwardness.

i scrolled through all of the replies looking to see whether anyone pointed out the fairly obvious reason this is actually an interesting test and didn’t see any, just people raging impotently at a hated object

I am no longer accepting the argument "there are bigger problems than this!" unless you are personally working to stop the ultimate Heat Death of the Universe.

Can I get Spotify to not show or play anything AI-generated? I often listen to lofi while I work and sometimes it will drift into AI-generated slop.

I have a hard time coughing up sympathy for OpenAI having their APIs abused by Deepseek training their model. This is more or less how the rest of the world has been feeling the last 2 years.

To answer my own question. I can't see it happening. The Linux abstraction that Docker provides is well known and useful. Also, there will be a performance hit. It was ~impossible to get ppl to accept unikernels. This feels similar. It's also been around for many years without mainstream adoption.

I've been away from C and C development for 8 years. Can't say I've missed autotools. Just getting the master branch of varnish-cache to configure took me a couple of hours.

I'm confused. One group wants to deport illegal aliens, the other group wants to make them stay. nobody is talking about making them legal residents.

I've been logging into Facebook lately, after a five year break. There are a couple of groups there that I've used. the site is really quite shit. Content doesn't load half the time and it's just these squares:

The US is doing impossibly well on nearly every economic metric. Yet populism thrives. Can you image what will happen during the next proper downturn?
