A reminder to Americans and the GDP-envious: GDP is not prosperity. It measures monetised activity, not outcomes. Pollution & cleanup, expensive healthcare, bureaucracy, military spending, rent extraction all raise GDP. Externalities & distribution ignored. Debt-fuelled distortions become “growth.”
