When Julia Curlee was in the CIA, she was guided by the motto “Service before politics. Country before self.” The Trump White House needed her—until her gender identity became public. On Radio Atlantic, she tells her story to Adam Harris: theatln.tc/aP7x2DgM

“Students should learn that good and evil exist, and that human beings have the capacity and duty to choose good.” From The Phoenix Declaration and the wonderful folks at Heritage Foundation, who want you to know they will be issuing guidance on just where the dividing line between the two is.

I kind of sense that the lesson tonight for the Democratic Party isn’t whether to run radical or progressive or moderate candidates as much as it is to run candidates who listen to their voters and reflect their concerns. And maybe open up and fund a few hundred field offices in reliably red areas.

“A big celebration of the country’s armed forces…could familiarize civilians with their armed forces and, in doing so, draw talented young Americans to serve.” —The Atlantic I just can’t shake the mental image of Brezhnev smiling at T-62s passing in front of Lenin’s portrait.

“The national-security system of the West is led by two men who cannot be trusted to defend America’s allies—and who deeply sympathize with the world’s most aggressive dictator.” —David Frum

From deep in my childhood I remember my mother dashing off Debussy’s fiendishly difficult Dr. Gradus ad Parnassum like she was doing a crossword. Turns out her copy of Children’s Corner is a 1908 original edition.

Final tally: 520 pieces, handed out individually. First little ghoul at 5:40, supply exhausted by 7:35, lights off and door locked. Then a short tour of the neighborhood, finally Young Frankenstein in honor of Teri Garr. And remember, put the candle back.
