This is a long shot but I am looking for the post content and post meta for a Facebook oEmbed in WordPress before they closed their oEmbed endpoint behind a API token. This would be a FB post embeded in mid-2020 or earlier.

There's an urgent call for testing by hosting providers for the WordPress Real-Time Collaboration feature coming in WordPress 7.0. There are a few data structures being considered & the testing will help determine the best approach across a range of environments. make.wordpress.org/hosting/2026...

This is great, the eligibility rules have been changed to allow gay and bisexual men to donate blood in Australia. When I donated plasma earlier this year, I found out I'm a universal blood donor. I've been told by friend to expect regular phone calls. Ironically, I'm disallowed by travel rules.

We will never get along if you can read the headline “Complaints about foul smells skyrocket in Melbourne’s west” without making a fart joke.

Things I say in detailed technical conversations that I didn't have on my bingo card: "👨 🏻🐰👨 🏻 appears differently to 👨🏻🐰👨🏻 which would trigger a false support detection even though none of the dudes are wearing bunny ears". Anyway... detecting emoji support is complex.

I watched the Hamilton the Musical episode of Hard Quiz last night and all I can think is how much of a waste of a subject it was that the contestant didn’t make it to the final round.

Ha, the NYT endpoint for the Wordle solution is available prior to the start of day. No token/request hash needed. Foolishly, I tested this in my browser for tomorrow (don't worry, I would never...). Switching to curl HEAD requests, it looks like the solutions are available up until October 8.

I was not expecting LinkedIn of all places to start doing good proper honest human constructed Sudokus. Not only that, they're by Thomas Snyder who's world renowned in Sudoku circles. Hopefully it starts a trend and newspapers will stop publishing boring algorithmically generated grids.

Many years ago, I saw a job application form with the biggest tell that the company was run by toxic wankers. "How many mouse clicks do you take to open your editor when you turn on your computer (we're serious)?" I still occasionally think about how much I'd hate to work for those people.

I finished writing my latest WordPress plugin over the weekend. Its working subtitle is "Why write 1200 lines of code (including 700 lines of tests) with no build dependencies when you can write 3,200 lines of code (without any tests) with 73 build dependencies?"

I’m trying to figure out if it’s IndexNow or IndexNow®. I can’t find any registration details online but it’s not something I need to do regularly so may not be looking in the right place.

"Reduces the number of database queries ... by 344 (347 queries down to 3)" is always nice to write in a commit message. Even if it is for a process that runs once during the lifetime of a site.

“I am not the beta in this relationship” I try to convince myself as I open the bedroom blinds mainly so the cat can lie on the bed and have a good bake in full sun.

I really, really, really wish that whoever named pull requests had named them merge requests instead. It makes explaining both git and GitHub to a new users so much more complicated. While explaining the concept of git push & pull the existence of pull requests makes things so needlessly confusing.

“Today, we optimise for “DX” – developer experience. Not user experience. Not performance. Not outcomes. [...] The more comfortable we make things for developers, the more abstraction we add. And every abstraction creates distance between the thing being built and the people it’s for.” - @jono.id

jonoalderson.comJavaScript broke the web (and called it progress)We replaced simple websites with complex apps nobody asked for. Now it takes a complex build pipeline just to change a headline.

The Tony Awards are taking their sweet time putting up the official footage of the Hamilton reunion. They’re going to lose so many viewers to fan-cams.

I’ll write the LAPD investigation’s summary now: the officer was unaware the woman standing in front of a camera crew describing the situation was a journalist.

I’m just a few hours from heading up to Zurich to catch my flight back to Melbourne. Switzerland is a lovely country but it’s been a busy week so I’m looking forward to getting back home.

The nice local who helped out with the photo told me this was a recent addition to the banks of the Rhine. It's intended to be temporary but he is hoping they keep it.

The customs agent sympathising that I’d have to do all this travel again next week was both lovely and Not At All Helpful Right Now. But mainly lovely.

Friends I am hanging out with at WordCamp Europe this week, your job is to make sure the idiot Australian doesn’t step out in front of a vehicle because I’m looking the wrong way.
